What's so amazing about this series is the number of references that are spilled all along the series.
I don't think that many people will be able to see all the references... that's why it's so cool living in the same time as Terry Pratchett : many references will get lost in a hundred years...
Hey, I nearly missed the reference to Gollum, in "Witches Abroad" the other day, although this particular reference is among the most obvious. Must have been tired...

I saw him post in usenet, but I didn't think it could be the real Pratchett. But the e-mail address does sort of confirm it.

According to the website that is referenced in the books (http://fly.to/discworld), it's really him on usenet (at least in alt.fan.pratchett).

Not only that, but in this months PC Zone, reviewer Rhianna Pratchett (who I'm guessing is his daughter because she has the right name, is about the right age and in a similar vocation to Terry himself) chose Thief 2 as one of her ten favourite games of all time.
Any, coolness that Pterry himself is playing Thief 2.

Everyone must stop what they are doing this instant and go read Terry Pratchett NOW. Especially important for Thief fans are:
Guards! Guards!
Men at Arms
Feet of Clay
There's no question in my mind that these novels were inspired by events in Thief - and that Shoalsgate Station was modeled after the Watch house in these books. There's definitly some atmospheric cross-referencing going on right under our noses.
Also read his novel with Neil Gaiman (of 'Sandman' fame) called Good Omens about the abduction of the baby antichrist and a demon and angel who decide to post-pone the Apocalypse.
C'mon- one of the main Discworld characters is DEATH. DEATH!! How much better could it get?

ooh, finally, other people who see the similarities betweek the Thief universe and Discworld! Yay!
I've alwaysd wanted to do a Thief level based on Ankh-Morpork, I could use my Ankh-Morpork mapp as a reference - wouldn't it be great to visit the Broken/Mended Drum and marvel at the wonder that is Short Street (the longest street of the city), plus, you could pop by the Assassins'and Thieves Guilds :)
oh, and could you tell us which FM's have Discworld references in them? (I think I remember the author of Lord Edmund Entertains saying one of the streets in his mission was Treacle Mine Street, apparently a Ankh-Morpork street)
