There's no question in my mind that these novels were inspired by events in Thief </STRONG>
Men at Arms was first published in 1993, Guards! Guards! sometime before that, and Feet of Clay in 1997. I don't know exactly when Thief came out, but don't these pre-date Thief?

Yes, I guessed he meant it the other way.
Apart from the Discworld series, there are also the Bromeliad trilogy (Truckers/Diggers/Wings), which is pretty good, and The Dark Side of The Sun (very imaginative).

Yeah, and 'Pyramids' is good too, not only cos its a brilliant (and rare one-off) book, but cos a large portion of it is to do with the Assassin's Guild, which is kinda thiefy..
dunno if anyone's interested, but Terry's also known to be a keen Privateer and Tomb Raider player, and, yes, itis his daughter who writes for PC zone UK

Well, just to compound the coolness, I saw him asking a question in the Thief newsgroup about the fm 'Making Tracks', which presumably means he plays Thief fms as well. Joy!
I'm probably more happy about this than I should be but I'm just too tickled pink with community pride to care. And the new book 'Night Watch' is great.

'Great'? It's the best one yet!

I'll definitely have to pick up one of his books soon.:thumb:

Trust me, the Terry Pratchett posting on alt.games.thief-dark-project really is the author of the Discworld novels. I've exchanged emails with him a couple of times, and met him briefly once.
A very nice man, and a very, very good author. And obviously a Thief addict. :thumb:
While I'm certainly in no place to speak for him, I have a feeling that all things considered, he'd might just rather be one of the taffers and not have too much attention brought to his author status. I think that he gets enough of attention as it is, and might just appreciate being able to take part in discussions like a regular taffer-at-large.
Then again, he probably can take care of himself... :o :tsktsk:

If he really wanted to drop his status, he certainly wouldn't post under the name of Terry Pratchett.

The fact that he has, and continues to post in the Thief newsgroup proves to me that he doesn't wish to post under a pseudonym, but would rather post about the topic subject. When he does post, it is almost always about being stuck in a given fan-mission, and it is generally Nightwalker who helps him out. Other posters tend not to refer to his author status, and this is why, in my opinon, he enjoys posting there.
The man has good taste :)
