Answer to that question: don't worry about it. In Georgia alcohol and firearms were frequently present and used in the same place, and nothing happened despite the fact that Georgians are even dumber than Texans.

CCCToad: Excellent. What state are you in? What do you typically carry? I tend to roll with a Taurus ((

(I actually have over 30 firearms, I am just speaking on what I carry daily.)
It is honestly more of a novelty though, as from 10 feet you can't hit a milk jug. Damn, it is LOUD though and is mostly for warning shots and point-blank self defence.

Right now I'm in Colorado, and my personal sidearm is a 1911. Like I said though, I don't use my permit much but I still love that weapon. Its powerful, accurate, and the design of the pistol (when holding the 19111 it naturally makes a straight line with your forearm) make for a weapon that I can deploy quickly and effectively if I needed to.

Surprisingly good taste from CCCToad, though it's kind of hard to conceal 1911 I imagine

When your daughter starts having boyfriends, be sure to casually mention this to them. Should keep them in line!

Harder than some of the smaller ones, but not anywhere near as difficult as you'd think. The 1911 is a fairly large pistol, but its also pretty slim.

Am I the only one here who has a conceal-carry permit?
Nope. I've got a Ruger LCP pocket pistol (gotta love that built in laser) that rides on my hip or boot, depending on where I'm going. I carry everywhere I'm legally allowed to every day due to previously discussed family trauma related to being shot.. Call me paranoid but your going to be just as dead if someone shoots you sitting on a pew as you are walking through a dark alley.

And that brings me to my main issue with the change to Texas law. While I'm not too concerned about faculty carrying on campus, the thought of students possessing them on campus really worries me. Having been one, I question whether college students can be responsible enough to carry. What's going to happen when the guy carrying the firearm passes out drunk?
Same thing that would happen if someone who was 30 passes out drunk with a firearm, I would assume. The kind of person who drinks to that point while in possession of a handgun is going to be inherently stupid, regardless of age. But realistically what do you picture happening? Someone going "oh this guy is passed out, lets fuck with his gun"?
( Again, that type of person is going to be a moron whether their enrolled in college or working at one. )
Ps. I also live in Texas and fully support this bill.

You could also argue in favor of natural selection on this one. Besides, most people actually do have an instinct for self preservation and the instances of extreme stupidity are much bigger in hype than in quantity.
Still, that whole conversation made me think of this:

I only keep 2 @ home, my fucking Benelli shotgun under the couch (which won't be anymore) and my Taurus. The rest are in a gun safe I rent.
