I read there is a limit of 32 texture families for a mission. Does that limit refer only to New Custom families? Or does it also include OM families used in your fm?
If that's the case, I might be better off placing all my new textures in a few custom folders rather than replacing original textures and having to add all their folders as well.
Random thought - is it a bad idea to add new textures (rather than using the same names and replacing original ones) to original family folders?

Yes. It includes OM families. But no to worry, only palette indexed textures care what family they are in. You should now be using .png files without palettes, and they can all go into a single family. Just don't mix paletted and non-paletted textures in the same family. IrfanView is a nice, FREE utility to convert between texture types. I used it to convert my old paletted custom textures to png.

In the document of New Dark.
So with non-paletted textures you can just use one familly for one FM!
Personally i do if like the map was divided in two or three part, and i use 3 familly to found precisly a texture because with 100 textures in a familly it can be hard ^^

Thanks, Larry. I have created some png textures to replace some OM textures, and placed them in folders by the family names. These new textures are not palettized. I haven't seen any problems. What kind of problems might crop up in the future?

Hi Le MAlin! I like that idea, thank you. I will just have to get into the habit of keeping a file to credit authors of borrowed textures, rather than placing them is such-named folders.

Be sure to check you're using unpalettized png textures. PNG also supports palettes. For unpalettized png textures in a folder with palettized png, gif, pcx, and so on, you can expect DromEd to get confused and throw a hissy fit. Check your monolog.

You can do it in comment on .mtl for all textures (now i do this, because then i can forget ^^')
