John: for the most part, I love these textures, and the fact that you included the option to install them individually is fantastic.
-I'll be the first to admit that if we had access to the original textures in high res, that would've been preferable to my versions. The originals are mostly hand painted/drawn, and I think they were trying for a 'painted' look to this game, more than photo realistic. Whereas my versions are pretty much Photoshop trickery based on the originals, or sometimes made from scratch using photo source. I
have sometimes painted in details lost in the originals, but all in all my versions may still alter the artistic direction of the game somewhat in the process of adding more detail. I have tried to make mine as close to the originals as possible, but at the same time I've had to "cheat" sometimes in order to save time.
The comparatively blurry look of the original textures ingame does actually further give the game a 'painted' look (see the comparison of the Clocktower window for example), I just couldn't stand the blurriness personally. I also do think it's logical to assume that if the developers hadn't been 'forced' to scale their textures down, they would have used high resolution, detailed versions of the original textures. Which would admittedly most of the time have made the game look better than it does now with my versions. But I think I've done my best, on my spare time for free, with the tools available to me. I haven't spent the time actually hand painting the Clocktower clock face for instance though, but have tried to 'copy' the original using a wrought iron look.
-On the upside, I think I have fixed a couple of things in the process; for instance, the "golden slab" that is the Compendium of Reproach, will now actually
be a "golden slab" when you find it, and not the pants and boots of a Hammer guard(!).
Thank you to Digital Nightfall and ttlg.com for co-hosting the file. It lightens the burden on my server a bit. :)
-Give the pack a shot, and if you don't like what it does, the game will be back to its original state when you uninstall the pack. Plus you can pick and choose what textures to install/enable.

Thanks, John. Haven't played this one much since its release, but discovering how to get it going in widescreen (alas, only vert clipped widescreen) has prompted me to give it another run. I'll go ahead and put the texture pack into the mix. Good timing.

John, as always, you did an awesome job. Thank you, I now plan to replay TDS. And best of luck to you in extending your talents to a new medium.

Thanks for all the hours of hard work. I really like your sharp textures in this game.
p.s. watching Bob Ross videos on PBS is a fun way to learn to paint.

Ooops... :erm:
-Turns out a couple of textures I made for this release somehow didn't make it into the installer when I compiled it.
I'm therefore making a small update, which will be a "silent update" (meaning the version number of the pack won't change), where these few textures are included.
And since I had to compile it again anyway, I've also updated a couple of textures and made a couple of new ones in the process.
Sorry about this. :(
I'll post which textures have been updated and added tomorrow (the new file won't be uploaded until after I tell you in this thread, so don't download the pack again until then).
My site is down the rest of this month, but I'll ask nicely if Digital Nightfall will upload the new version when it's done. Again - sometime tomorrow.
[edit]there's nothing technically wrong with the 1.02 Texture Pack you can download from thief-thecircle.com, it's just that I forgot to include a couple of textures I had made for the pack, somehow.[/edit]
