Hi
is there someway to emulate a "texture panning" ?
if this is not possible , we can rotate an object? i wish create a multistrate Sky like in Skyrim
Thanks alot in advance
Edit : feel free to move this in Editor guild's sorry , LOL

For what?
It's still the old Thief Dark engine (not a new technical miracle), and a finished mission finally would be better, do not think so?

this is not a your problem taff
you think at yuor missions....i think to mine ,
anyway all the Editor's guild try to give improvements anyone...
and if Thief 2 will use Shader 3.0 ( i don't know if you know what i'm talking about , modern Things ) we don't need to wait for Thief 4 :)
anyway this a free discussion forum and I'm Free to ask what i want
I'm a fan of graphic effects and modern graphics ... and i have only 2 Months of Dromed knowledge! and I think a lot of people do like to see a Thief2, more modern.

I've moved the thread as requested - please keep conversations friendly :).

Without the source code, you won't be able to do anything more than what's already there. NewDark added some nice effects that allow you to do some cool things, but nothing like the fragment shaders present in even Doom 3.

I think you need to work through a DromEd tutorial or three. Yes you can "pan" textures on brushes using the U V controls. There are even distortion effects in NewDark for textures (differing U scale vs. V scale). Yes you can rotate textures on brushes. Yes you can rotate objects. You need to learn the fundamentals. Learn what you can do & figure out how to use it to get the effects that you want.
As to Shader 3.0, that's the internals of the excecutables. Only the authors of NewDark would know if it is or isn't or could or can't be implemented.

I don't think he's talking about the basics of texture mapping. He might be after something like a parallax effect, where you have different layers of distant art.
NewDark certainly doesn't support that, but I have an idea for something you could try. Objects can extend into the sky and still be rendered, as long as their centres are in air. I saw that used to good effect for Mission X.
You could try have two cylinders, different sizes and textures, each with their faces pointing inwards. The outer cylinder could be a lot bigger, but taller. That might make it look closer when standing still, while also appearing to shift a lot as you move.

Hi keep in mind that i'm not english :)
lol, larry, currently i use 5 graphics engines
I wanted to give DromEd a try I studied architectures, maybe I can help you there :) you prefer internal

http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/42/pf4p.pngin this thread i've asked for "panning" and for shader 3.0 or something
What i mean for "Shader 3.0 Emulation"
everyone here remember Quake 1, good ,everyone know that quake has no normal mapping (normal and Dynamic textures), no A:I shadow , a simple OpenGl system , someone, made some Special Patch that allow Quake use all the actual effects like a modern game ,without steal nothing from Doom 3 ,
the name of this patch are
Darkplace , Tenebrae ,
and i've worked on Quake 1 retexture patch in the past
watch this first , you have to remember how :)

what we need ? starting from mtl file we can do alot of things , I am grateful to those who have built new dark , i hope this is clear !
I would be very pleased if DromEdwould use at least the "Normal mapping "

Darkplaces and Tenebrae are source ports that add a ton of modern effects to the Quake 1 engine. It's not a mod, not emulation, and not a trick. They're using real deal, honest to god fragment shaders, which can't be replicated in Dark as is currently is.
Though you can apply some trickery using alpha masks, detail textures, and a few clever tweaks to the material files in NewDark. I managed to do a decent enough to get by in certain specific situations specular-like effect back when I was playing around with it. You won't be able to do anything that even comes close to approximating normalmaps, but you can fudge a bit and fake some neat effects with what it's got now.

Hi Renz as you know, a picture done well worth much more than a modern one that has no flavor. :)(about modern games)
I would never change a matisse with a monet, matter of taste, you can give a nice effect simply with what we have. I wondered if "the gurus here" could add something ...

yea i know that...i'm not a Programmer , only a mapper , i know your work , you can do something ? if yes let me know!!!
but about the FX i can say that ,i'm using the skyrim fire in my mission , we can use the modern effects
p.s. i'm satisfied of new Dark 1.21, and i don't know who worked on it , but Thanks
