(TG) AI can't see me during training ("shadow training" part) - by misunderstood hybrid

Hi, I recently reinstalled thief gold. Encountered a strange bug during training and I have a "non-standard" installation so trying to find out what the culprit might be.
* Graphics:
Tried using the most recent nvidia drivers for w98 (89.91 iirc), but the models were partially or completely invisible, so I rolled back to 45.23. I'm using an old geforce2 card on this machine so I figured I'd have to roll back anyway (though I never had any of the problems people describe for this card e.g. game not running).
The strange thing is, now that I'm using 45.23, character models display fine as far as I can tell, but when I do the first part of training (hiding in shadows), I can't get the guy to see me...I can jump around and stand in the light all day and nothing happens.
other stuff:
* Using Northon's "ultimate difficulty mod" v1.3.
* Using hardware version of textures upgrade.
* Using hardware version of character meshes upgrade.
I tried playing the game after training and as far as I can tell, I am visible when not hiding in shadows. But I'd like to eliminate any possible problems before I start playing.
Could the ultimate difficulty mod be causing this? Because the other stuff (drivers, graphics upgrades) just effects what you see, not how the game responds, right??

I also had this problem. Not long ago at all. I run a comparatively customized installation, too. All three of (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1687640) these great graphics mods. (Only I changed the arm texture back to Daemonite's.)
Hmm. If I can just recall how I worked around it...
...Yeah. I believe it had something to do with the resname_base variable, possibly. Mmm... or not. No, that was the "not loading" error. Maybe I used the sound/FX EP from Beleg and the KdK, and that was the source? Nooo.
Damn. I'll let you know the moment I find out. In the meantime, have fun harrassing your Keeper instructor. I once tried to mantle up and lean into him, and was instantly flung in an arc across the entire room. It was a repeatable bug, even.

@misunderstood hybrid: This sounds more like the classic bug. I had the problem, too. I couldn't get past this room, even if I was told I was successful, the barred exit wouldn't open. It's been a long time since I found the fix, but if it is the classic bug, it shouldn't be too hard to find the answer I did.
@Larris: Another classic bug/exploit, but fun if you're patient enough to keep reloading. Wheee!

Magpie and jtr7, thanks for your replies. The thing I didn't make clear is that I can actually leave the (shadow) training room, only thing wrong is the AI never sees me when I stand in the light. For the rest of training everything seems normal too (I'm heard if I make noise, etc...). Is this part of the "classic bug"?
Like I said, when I play the first mission everything appears to be working correctly, I just don't like the idea that there was something wrong in the training mission that might start again after I've been playing the game a while.
I pm'd Northon (creator of Ultimate Difficulty mod) to see if he's had any similar bug reports, haven't heard back from him yet.
So yeah, if you find out anything lmk.

Thanks for the clarification. As far as I'm aware, this is new, but there have been reports about every other day this month of different glitches I've never heard of. Sorry no one who might know how to help you hasn't seen this thread, yet.:(
Maybe if this thread was moved to another forum?
