The Gold missions are definitely worth it. Also, if you are planning to play the FMs, you will want Gold because many of them are made only for Gold, so you'll be able to play any of them.
What made a mission available only for the Gold edition? Thief 1 and Gold aren't in the same platform?

Thief Gold fan missions may have assets (scripts, AI, etc.) that thief the dark project do not have, thus you would run into issues playing said fan missions. That's why she suggests getting gold, because that way you can play either gold or tdp fan missions without worry.

A slight digression. TGOLD is T1 patched with a couple new missions, removal of some of the original AI and simplification of some of the obstacles.
The additional missions are entertaining, but the first issue of T1, complete with bugs and unpatched is better than T1 patched, or TGOLD.
The word better is applicable to the "play" of the game and the included AI, not necessarily "better" in the sense of bugs. The bugs in 1.14 are annoying, but not enough to ruin the game. Slight correction of playing technique is enough to avoid "triggering" most of them.

removal of some of the original AI
what?:o
Oh, I forgot to mention. Another reason for liking thief gold (if you actually care) is there is the blooper reel level, as well as Little Big World.

Really? I'd like to see some proof of that. :sly: I'd also argue that what is better is your opinion, not fact.

Of what obstacles you are talking? Make me an example.

What is the improvements of the unpatched version?

This is just one example. Find a copy of the original unpatched release and play it.
As for the use of the word "Obstacles", the original had bugs that would hang you up/lockup the game and Garrett in certain corners or areas. These, in my mind are "obstacles" to smoothly playing this game.

Surely then just referring to them as bugs is less misleading than calling them obstacles, implying they are an intended part of the gameplay experience?

Playing Thief unpatched? No thanks, the EAX effects contribute greatly to the atmosphere.

You're right, I forgot about this change. That doesn't mean craymen don't exist in thief gold though. I was under the impression that you meant some ai were literally removed from the dark engine.
