I had the same crash to desktop, but it has nothing to do with the mission itself. Looks like you have a problem with your install.
I uninstalled thief gold, reinstalled it, and applied the latest Tfix patch. Make sure your Tfix version is 1.12, because it includes the 1.19 patch.
Then I copied the files I had in my \crf folder into the \res folder. And then, the game runs fine.
Regarding the mission, all I had to do is fix the type=2 bug in the darkloader .ini file.
Yes, I have used the latest version of Tfix, v 1.12.
Which \crf folder and which \res folder are you talking about? T2, T1?

Thief Gold.
The classic install put all your game files into a \crf folder.
For some reason you have to copy these files into the \RES folder just created.

Where is the Duchess?
She is mentioned in 2 different locations as being seen by the window. But I couldn't find her.

OK, but as I said, I'm using T1 patched for TG.
So I copied the contents of the T1 \crfs folder into the T1 \res folder. The FM then started, but was impossibly dark.
So I also then made the same adjustments to the T1 cam_ext.cfg file as I had to make to the T2 cam_ext.cfg file after installing New Dark so I could adjust the gamma in game; namely I commented out the use_d3d_display line, and uncommented the d3d_disp_sw_cc line.
Now the FM will start, but large portions of the buildings are blue, and the AI are completely deformed.

It looks like I am going to have to reinstall T1. I have TG and tried to reinstall it, but I get a message saying it won't install on NT (I'm actually using XP).
I am completely and utterly confused about which patches, fixes etc I will need to apply to a Sold Out version of T1 to get it to the state where I can play this and future T1/TG FMs. There are updates to T1 itself, then there's TG patch, Tafferpatch, TFix, New Dark, etc. If somone can enlighten me with clear and precise instructions, please do.

cannot be found in the mission, but her estate can be accessed from the Thieves' Highway.
Sorry to hear this, Marbrien. Did you try the old
-lgntforce method on your copy of TG to get it to install anyway? Working copies of TG can be acquired from either Steam or GOG, these are pre-patched and do not require the old
-lgntforce thing that was required to install the game on modern systems before. Once the game is installed, you'll just have to download and install the latest version of TFix that contains New Dark and everything should work properly from there.

Thanks for the tip, Skacky. Once I'd found the FAQ that told me what to do, I managed to get TG reinstalled, applied TFix and, after adjusting the settings in cam_ext.cfg that control the gamma, and altering some of the key bindings back to what I'm used to in T2, I now have a playable FM. I'm looking forward to it, especially after all the technical aggravation!

Thanks Schacky Finished this beautiful mission, lovely architecture, the gameplay was also good even if it was sometimes hard to manage the number of rope arrows since there was many wooden beams for a few number of ropearrows.
The previous mission was more impressive for me, maybe because there was much more to explore on the streets , but this one is also a fine piece of art.
Once again thanks for this amazing mission.
Looking foward for more like this one.

Oh my taffin' God... this FM is as awesome as it sounds. A true companion to Shadow Politics, and a serious rival to Disorientation.
At least NewDark seems to have fixed the Rope Arrow problems I kept running into in Shadow Politics.
Completed on Expert, got 3611 loot.
Among my discoveries:
The Gas Arrow.
The ring.
The coins above the starting position.
The power station exit. (Is there anything there?)
4 possible entrances into the mansion (including the front door).
One bug: The Pagan spy refused to submit to my blackjack, he just stood upright and kept on snoring. Didn't seem to notice me either.
Keep up the fantastic work! :D
EDIT: Realized that I had forgotten to visit one location, so now my loot is up to 3711. However, I did notice a piece of loot that I can't seem to reach. It's a Hammerite figurine on a windowsill. Any hints on how to nab it?
