Maybe I can help you, if you're still not up to the Temple. You'll know when you're in it, by the way as the key you use to get in in labeled. :)

Does that mean I need a "Temple Key" ? Ok, now I have to put my book down and get into this FM in a serious way. I've been leaving it alone over the past few days, only going ahead in small steps as my questions get answered. I need to reacquaint myself with the castle's layout, because that is the only area available to me right now.

Ok, this is where I'm at.
The 2nd floor locked guest room on the north side remains locked. And there is somebody inside. Is this the room with the crack?

In the observatory there is a banner that the sword won't slash, but a message pops up telling me to "use the magic power of the elements..."
Other than that, there is nothing I can see that allows me to progress.

There's one guest room on the second floor that only opens with a key that is worn by a lady standing in the big room on the main floor. If she panics and runs off to her room, you can't get in there. It's not essential that you do. It only contains loot. If you've been into the Observatory, then you must have found the key to the room with the crack. It's in the SE corner of the second floor and it just looks like an ordinary room. It contains a bed and a chair and there's a plant on the windowsill. Move it and lean out the window. You'll find a lever that will open a secret door.
As for the banners, as far as I can tell from this thread you have to use the appropriate elemenal arrow on each of 4 banners to get some kind of Easter Egg but I haven't figured it out yet as I haven't found them all and I also don't have a gas arrow yet for the Air banner in the observatory.

I've finally gotten a chance to play this FM and I'm really enjoying it, though I never would have gotten far without this thread! I'm stuck though and reading all the stuff here hasn't really helped. I've seen references to
a water area but I can't find it. I'm in the Temple, I've gotten the Golden Book but there doesn't seem to be a way out. There's a line of guards out in the main room and I've seen a small hole in the wall of the Temple but all I can see through it is a light. What do I do? Please don't be cryptic. Spoil it for me. :)
The entrance to the
water area is
behind a banner in the back passage of the temple. You need to destroy the banner using one of the elemental arrows, as you have noted.
EDIT: I just went back to a saved game befor entering the
Ice mage room(see below), and I find the entrance to the
water area blocked. So now I am not sure how I unblocked it.
There is a light in a darker panel in the center of the back hallway behind the temple. That panel can be opened somehow. I think there was a banner there,
but I can't remember, and my only saves start 4 hours into the game!
If you need to get out of the temple and back into the house before entering the
water area,
frobbing the first talisman holder at the end of the hallway below the stairs closes and opens the entrance door from the house.
Have you been in the
Ice Mage's temple room? That requires the Temple Key. I forget where that key is found.
As for the guards, I BJ'ed them all so they became less of a problem.

The entrance to the
water area is under the light in the passage behind the Temple, which is accessable through the doors to the left and right of the Temple doors. The water banner is behind the entrance door. I had a lot of trouble finding the water entrance because I was searching everywhere else, but I believe the lever in the upper alcove of the Temple (next to a chest and a hidden hole in the floor) opens this "secret" door. As far as I know, the Keeper Door in the Temple does not open, so don't waste a lot of time trying to find a way to open it, like I did.
Thank you both! I hadn't figured out what that lever did so now I'll go check out that passageway! :)

I thought that locked room would have to lead somewhere, but I couldn't find that
"invisible" lever outside the window.
I wonder why I would have trouble finding something that isn't visible?
So I progressed about, I guess, 100 feet? before I got stuck again.
There is another wall banner that won't slash, with the same message, and I hope I didn't wreck things by slashing earlier banners in the castle instead of blasting them with various appropiate arrows.

Along with the banner are two wall statues, one lethal if you frob it standing in front of it. Looks like you have to place something on them, but who knows what. Then comes the dead end.
At least I got to club 3 guards through the door but I still have to open it somehow.
Nightwalker on 17/6/2006 at 19:50
Clock, you need to shoot the lower statue with a fire arrow to open the next door. That gets you into the area just outside the Temple.
smithpd on 17/6/2006 at 19:50
Clock,
You can't ruin an elemental banner by slashing it. The two talisman holder "statues" serve different purposes. The one at the end of the first hallway is described above in my post to Nightwalker. The one at the bottom of the lower stairs, which shot back at you,
serves to open the door at the end of the passage.
Specifically, the way to open the door is:
shoot a fire arrow at the talisman holder.
