Praise the Builder I can FINALLY put this one behind me!!
Thanks, Clock. You had the right three, but the wrong order. The key to solving the puzzle was to read both the main plaque AND the plaques in front of each statue. If that isn't enough for you,
Hint:
Note which word on the main plaque is ALL CAPS, and then look at the small plaques.
Solution:
Spell the word "WAY" using the first letters of the names of the other statues.
Be sure to frob the main statue after turning the proper three statues or the door won't open!
To the FM author:
This FM is FAR advanced over your first two - you are progressing nicely in creating levels. This one had ALOT of great ideas and challenging puzzles. Nevermind my frustration (I am impatient by nature). I would only suggest trying to find a way to clue the player in a little better on what they are supposed to be doing as far as the puzzles go. Aside from that, great job - and I'm looking forward to your next Thief Gold FM!!

Boy did I fluke that one. I just randomly frobbed statues and got it right the second time.

taffedinthehead, thanks for playing ALL MY FM's, but I have to say that Golden Book is my first and ONLY mission (at the moment). Please tell me what missions do you suppose to be mine? I'm really confused (may be it's some sort of revenge?). Looks like I have missed something important in my life.
Clock, to go
through the hutch in the lab you must use floating crate or blackjack on the jammed gate underwater. To use blackjack: 1) stand on the shore of the lake; 2) rise your weapon; 3) jump down and swim to the gate with raised blackjack. And you always may get back to the castle using TWO fire arrows on the statue nearby the closed door to the Temple.
Nightwalker, you CAN
get to the basement from VERY beginning of the mission (on "Insane"). Shoot rope arrow to the bushes just from the garden hut, climb it and jump on the hut's roof. Then go along the wall. But don't forget to take the hatch key first!
Sorry Zontik - there were two other Gold missions that came out this year, and since Gold missions have been rare lately, and the author of those missions mentioned wanting to do Gold missions for now, I assumed it was you. Of course, now I can't find them on the list to tell you which ones they were - at any rate, this is quite an accomplishement for a first FM!

The other T1 missions that have come out recently are "Sepulchre of the Sinistral" by Doaal, which was outstanding but also difficult, like this one and "Heaven in the Garden of Stone: The Haunted Church" by BG Taffer which was rather simple. It was a rare treat to have 3 T1 missions to play and I hope we get more.
I have one other question for you, Zontik. :) Is there a way through the door that says "Staff only"? I've played your mission on Hotshot and Insane and now I've gone back to play it on the easiest setting. It's a lot of fun and doesn't get boring in a hurry which is a realy bonus. Thanks so much for such an entertaining mission! :thumb:

Thanks, taffedinthehead, I'm glad to know anybody likes to play Gold missions, and I still can't understand why so many people forgot about Thief I. In my opinion, it is not any worse than Thief II. May be DromEd 1 has some more limitation, but it only makes FM creating more challenging. It's like black&white photo - it is still alive, color photo haven't kill it.
Now I can promise to continue the story in the next mission, but it will take me some time to finish the rest 75% of work.

That is a good trick, raising the club up previous to entering the water in order to "use" it. But who would have considered doing that. If it wasn't for this thread I simply would never have gotten far on this FM. Oh well, a few things to tidy up.
1. The chest underwater near the lab hatch, with a breath potion on one side and a health potion on the other. Can it be opened?
2. There was a reference to a map in the maze, which was crossed off (immediately I think) after the objective triggered. Is there such a map?
Nightwalker on 19/6/2006 at 18:04
That chest can be picked open, Clock, though it's hard to tell when it's underwater. Yes, there is a real map to be found. :)

How are you doing on "Insane" Nightwalker. I thought that at this difficulty you couldn't club anyone, but apparently you can.
I had the same problem getting into the basement until I read the answer to your query. And, of course, Easter Egg #1 was a priority if you want to skulk.
I remember roping up to the 3rd floor, but I don't remember if that was neccessary.
I found a switch I didn't know existed (turns the lights on/off in the Grand Hall).
Things are a lot easier when you have some foreknowledge
I forgot, there was mention of a golden ring with sapphire lost on the staircase to the 2nd floor. I never did find it. This would be the linear staircase close by to the message pinned on the wall right? Not the circular stairwell to the third floor.
Nightwalker on 20/6/2006 at 02:10
I had no trouble finishing on Insane after playing through on Hotshot. The ring is in the front foyer. There's a plant to the right of the stairs and the ring is on the floor between the plant and the wall. I roped up to the 3rd floor too as I couldn't find any other way up there.
