if you have an objective to kill him, then go! If no, try to find his diary in his bedroom first. Or you can frob lamp in the kitchen in his house.
Charge:
I was able to beat the level. Thanks for the hint about the Ice Pick. Though I did assume the sharp ice in the corner was what I had to use it on, at first.
However, I never found out what the lamp in the kitchen did. I assume it leads to the 'tipsy potion' that can go into the shelf upstairs. I hear something move in the kitchen, but I can't find anything on the floors, walls, ceiling, or dumbwaiter. I tried the nearby room and every room in the house both upstairs and downstairs.

Kitchen lamp activates conversation.
If it is not activated, maybe you just don't need to hear it. Can't remember details; maybe it depends on your walkthrough way.

I just played it a 2nd time (on Expert) and couldn't figure out what to do with the
poison and the red dresser, but then I caught your post above. In order to use those, I would have had to NOT activated the Kill Objective for the items in the Spoiler to work.
Great mission though; I also like how
If you place a key on the tray in the hotel, the hotel greeter won't activate the alarm and fail your mission; you just trick him by giving him any key you have.. Little touches like that made these 3 missions very fun.

I'm in the third mission and found a screwdriver but I don't know where to use It, I'm really stuck.

You can use screwdriver to enter the jail from the river side. You can also use it to get to the Master Builder's mansion through the kitchen's chimney.

Replaying Golden Book, I vaguely recall having the issue before, but haven't been able to see it in this thread. It seems every time I use the Temple Key to open the room with the Ice Keeper, the objective to "Not Kill Anybody" ticks off as failed. I've tried different sequences, like just unlocking one of the doors, but he doesn't even have to see me to fail that objective. Is this why the difficulty mode is called "Insane" ? or is there something I can do for this not to happen.
The other thing is the button in the middle of the tapestry doesn't frob.

I must have played this mission 10+ times and have never come across either of these this issues. However I recently bought a new laptop and discovered a number of minor 'bugs' that occurred previously in other T1/TG missions disappeared entirely. I suspect, in my case anyway, that TG can cause minor bugs to appear in games, even with a fresh Thief install, if your windows is not reading the TG engine at 100%
Here's a(
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7UExWqHXPI2aTVhMXIxY01abGs) save on insane just after the Ice Keeper, where you jump down into the water area, there's a bit of loot missing (2651/3167) from the 100% available up to this point, but at least you'll be able to finish the mission.

Thank you for the save. I should say that my mission doesn't "end" after the objective ticked off as failure. I can carry on, and I have gotten to the water section without issue. I was just annoyed that apparently I killed someone when I didn't.

as failureAre you sure??? Maybe you just see the red stroked round (objective is canceled) instead of the red cross (objective is failed)?
