Good article on the (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/12/us/politics/first-republicans-must-find-common-ground-among-themselves.html) Battle for the soul of the Republican Party. Apparently the problem is either the party needs to welcome back moderates OR the party needs more ideological purity at all costs. One of these strategies sounds like a serious attempt at electoral politics. The other sounds dumb. I'll let you all make your own conclusions.

And anyway, Azaran's intentionally misleading comment is why we have this discussion -- it even SAYS in the title of the article that "Citizens from 15 states" -- not "15 states." Don't be like Fox News, Az!

It'll be great when these petitions get finished and Obama just waves them off.

No way in hell would anyone be allowed to secede, and there's probably no way in hell the states themselves would listen to their own citizens who want to secede.

The only thing these people are doing is identifying themselves as reactionary fools.

I think it's usually politics itself that turns people to saying ill-considered things, and that is because people end up following some ideological platform that prevents them from constructing a sensible argument. TTLG is no different from anywhere else...

I'm 100% certain that the article title originally didn't have the 'Citizens from' bit (note the URL of the article, and the still present 'Texas files petition to secede from United States' sub-heading. Oh, and (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8070/8190835972_a735496062_h.jpg) Google's preview still shows the original headline), hence my original response. And if you read the comments there are actually a handful of people calling them out on the inaccuracy prior to the correction (mixed in with a lot of crazy). Good job with the journalistic initiative there, dethtoll.
