A Little History As I Understand It Happened
In the beginning there was Looking Glass and it was good. The OM scripts provided allowed you to do many things in your mission if you had sufficient ingenuity, at least after Telliamed created the decoder ring documentation. Then came GayleSaver with his custom scripts (the "GayleSaver Scripts") which were a revelation: custom, non-OM scripts were proven possible. When GayleSaver stopped maintaining his scripts, Telliamed recreated their functionality in his Public scripts and then augmented those with tnhscripts, and things went from good to much better. I believe it was with tnhscripts that the concept of using the Editor>Design Note for specifying script parameters was first introduced. Nameless Voice, standing on Telliamed's metaphoric scripting shoulders, revolutionized the custom script concept with his generalized approach to script parameters. Recently a few more script authors have started writing their own scripts, some publicly and some privately.
I just want to say thank you. To all of you, script writers past, present, and future.
Thank you GayleSaver, wherever you are.
Thank you Telliamed.
Thank you NV.
Without all of your extraordinary efforts in providing scripts (and other services) to the Thief Fans and Mission Designers I doubt that the Thief community would have survived to this day. You are all truly awesome. Never believe that your efforts are unappreciated. People may not remember to say thank you or express their ongoing appreciation, but you have done some truly great things and enable a lot of joy and happiness, then, now, and as long as there are mission authors and fans to play their missions.
Thank you.

To me, I will thank Telliamed a lot for the LGS scripts.
These ones give a lot of liberty! The lua is so trivial to write, understand and learn!
Since I discovered it, I can say nothing but thank you too!
Nigh everything is allowed and now, all my dreams in Dromed are now reality!
And I'm quite suprised to see that so low amount of fun mission use the LGS script! :)
And If I combine it with the other codes! It become even more perfect!
And with Kdau script! We can break the fourth wall and are even allowed to change the UI and travel from a mission to another!
More liberty! Everything is now possible! Nothing is enought hardcoded in Thief! :)
Thank you GayleSaver!!
Thank you Telliamed!!
Thank you NV!!
Thank you Kdau!!

I agree. Custom scripts are wonderful things. Without them, things that are easy to describe (add a link, frob an object etc) would require us to have hidden AIs performing conversations, objects sending and receiving stims, EmitterTraps launching unusual objects, an invisible AI watching something, and lots of other elaborate things.
It's very nice to know that if we want to set something up, and the LGS scripts can't help, there's probably a custom script that can do it with one object and a couple of parameters.

This is a DromEd-only feature. It doesn't work in the game/after reloading.

I'll certainly add my heartfelt thanks as well. I haven't worked with scripts that much yet, myself, but I've seen enough to know we are exceptionally lucky to have (and to have had) such talented and generous script writers among us. I'm very grateful, as I'm sure all the authors are.

Wasn't there something years ago about someone logging on to the LGS server and downloading copyrighted scripts, and then releasing them and calling them their own? And then soon after, a confession of some kind by same person. It's all a little blurry, and happened over a decade ago, I believe.
And I thought Kdau's scripts did not work with the most recent version of New Dark. Right?

I had never heard that. But if it happened, then that isn't one of the people we are sending our gratitude towards.

Some features will work in recent version of New Dark, such as KDTrapNextMission , some won't (like KDStatMeter)

Brethren was thinking of Gaylesaver, and fib's link is the so-called confession. But I don't think it actually happened that way, I think Vadim was clever enough to reverse-engineer the headers just like Telliamed did.

I'm just glad that people are still here, making awesome stuff, making Thief a better game and making TTLG a better place. :)
Though I didn't really have much to contribute other than this video: :p

I might start putting my sound design skills to better use, and by that I mean helping fan mission makers get some better audio for their levels. I've gotten a lot better since I started in 2011.
