I've never had a problem with DarkLoader. I've used FMSel. Works great, also, but I'm a stubborn old coot.
I just wish Telliamed would update DL like he promised.
Is darkloader source available somewhere? I would update it if possible, I guess i could create one from scratch that could import the darkloader.ini that has all the info in it.

Source is included with the install files for at least the most recent version. (
www.darkloader.net)

Thanks... delphi... looks like it will be easier to start a new c# project from scratch. been years since i've done anything in that language. I shall call it NewDarkLoader. :)

there is a good chance FMselect will solve the problem, but it won't save you if your install is already messed up - for example, if I remember correctly, hires textures need to be in modpaths (cam_mod.ini) so the game will pick the mtl files and scale them properly, if you have them in installpaths (darkinstall.cfg), they will be messed up.
Are you sure about this? You might be confusing it with DDFix's old way of overriding materials, which needed extracted files.
I'm fairly sure NewDark must be able to load mtl files from compressed mod paths, otherwise FMs wouldn't work?
(Though that's applying logic rather than actually testing.)

I was referring to that problem with hires textures not scaling up properly - the only way I can imagine this would happen is by placing the textures somewhere where they are getting picked up by the engine, but the mtls are not, and I guess that would happen if you would attempt to load EP2 via adding the EP2 path into darkinstall.cfg instead of cam_mod.ini, for example. would need to test this to be sure, but I'm kind of lacking the time at the moment.
and while I do understand that people want to use the tools that they are accustomed to, sometimes you just have to move on. *sheds a nostalgia tear for 3dfx tools, the easiest, fastest, most practical and functional gpu config utility that ever existed, while spitting on the broken monstrosities currently supplied by AMD and Nvidia*
//actually, no - mtls work even if only in install paths. ok, so I have no idea why would someone have the problem with mtls not being applied (some completely insane install/mod folder structure maybe?), but I'm pretty sure that using darkloader is not helping things.
'nyway, what I wanted to point out is that we have ways of loading everything that are tried and safe, and if someone wants to do things his way, well, sure thing why not, but he better know very well what he's doing, else he's in for a bumpy ride.

Good luck! If I may, I know we Thief Gold fanatics are to blame, DarkLoader incorrectly identifies NewDark T1/TG FMs as T2 FMs since the engine is the same for both games now. Would it be possible to make the distinction so people won't have to fiddle with the .ini file? That would make life easier for those who don't want to use FMSel and aren't really computer savvy. :)

I
love these code weenies. Every game has them. Hated 'em when I was flunking through 9th grade math, but I certainly appreciate their talents now.
