Uhm... no. All my team members ran away, as they also did when Kingers was the
project monarch. "
Unforeseen Consequences" must be cursed with an evil fate, I suppose...

Hm, I guess those were "unforseen consiquences" hahaha... hah...
Okay.

From a developer's perspective, that sounds quite
boring to me. Copying all the assetts originally to a new engine with no freedom of altering them a bit? Unfortunately, it has to be that strict, as otherwise the conversion would not be accepted. On the other hand, yes! Playing it would be awesome when it's done right. However, gathering a team which sole purpose would be to copy all the old assetts, improve them and then to insert them into a new engine would surely be
difficult. As you might guess, I am more into creating new missions... (
http://unforeseen.net.tc) like this. ;)
Bingo, Ominous cowl!(You just stated some of the best reasons for simply having some software do that easily presumed "boring work".) :thumb:
And, hopefully, this might only require that the new owner do a normal T3 install and then run a special conversion utility, one time, to help Hexarith's new 3d-engine, where need be and for major texture differences, perhaps?
(PS, I tried some experiments with Silent Hill 3 using a non-TnL graphics card.)
And except for the game being almost totally dark, all of its logic was perfectly functional, folks! (Talk about "Playing Blind"!)
So could any T2 player, with an older PC, need this for playing T3?

Writing a conversion utility like you're describing would actually take more effort, and be more difficult to pull off. It isn't a question of "simply having some software" do the conversion work because someone has to write that magical software. Game engines aren't interchangeable, and even if you could convert the graphics and so forth easily there'd still be the problem of coding equivalent AI, movement, and sound propagation systems.
Also, judging by the features hexarith is talking about, his engine is geared toward running decently on hardware that hasn't even been released yet, or at least stuff that's top of the line right now.

We should go easy on him. ;) tiger@sound.net is pretty enthusiastic sounding, but doesn't have a real world grasp on how games are made quite yet.
As Gestalt said tiger@sound.net, you would essentially have to 're-create' all the AI systems, you couldn't just plug them in and expect them to work in a new engine.

Especially considering what we know of hexarith experience with game engines this far (RT, you could have checked his posts). So :
Random_Taffer : lurk more.
hexarith : what komag said, at least in a positive and optimistic manner. Good luck dude. Also : will it be an open-source engine and / or will it run with other OSes than Windows ?
Oh wtf? I was trying to be nice! My post was by far the most positive. Komag is great, I love the guy but I actually thought his post to be sarcastic...(forgive me if it was sincere). Then the next one was the same so my post suggested we be fair... :erg:

We're waiting, hexarith ...
Your two weeks is up, sir.
Domarius on 11/5/2006 at 17:32
Are you paying him?

Are you saying I shouldn't?
