And a shining new era begins: 4 years of social decline, benefits for the rich, environmental destruction, and other goodies. Nice going Canada, good job!

The green party actually got a seat in B.C. which makes me happy. I didn't vote for them, but it gives them legitimacy in the House of Commons.
NDP took nearly alll of Quebec, which also makes me happy. The Bloc are on the way out. They're the most useless party in the mix anyway, they're all about dividing Canada, not working together.
The liberals got spanked. I didn't expect that, their leader didn't even win his own seat.
I think this will be a very interesting term in the gov't, I just hope Layton is more concerned with making the gov't work rather than complaining and trying to stonewall every thing just because he is now the official opposition.
Hooray for well thought out long term plans, Less expensive consumer goods, Fighter planes that work, and no more gun registry.

So happy about the NDP's massive gains, overwhelmingly crushed by the Conservative majority.

Well that was a cock up for the Liberals. "We'll force an election and overthrow the minority government!"
Instead they hand the Tories a majority and to add insult to injury make Layton the official opposition. Good job Ignatieff. As for the Bloc? Just make them go away already, seriously. Give it another election or two and the Green Party will have more seats.
I'm happy the Conservatives are back in power, though being in the airforce I might be a little biased.

Ignatieff just walked, I see.

Okay, a little late to the party here, but am super confused about two things:
1. Harper's government is found to be in contempt of parliament. This result in an election, which results in them gaining more seats. I assume this means a majority of Canadians thought the charge was not legitamite? Why?
2. Apparently some part of this mess is Canada buying new fighter jets? Why the hell are they doing that? I mean, I know they're not throwing billions down a hole in R&D like the USA, but at least we actually use some fraction of our bloated air force when we're out doing our thang in the Middle East. Is Canada planning on invading anybody? Is this just so they can join the party on UN actions? What's the deal?

Canadians seem to think that the allegations against the CPC were little more than the opposition parties looking for an excuse to force an election (Harper certainly claimed this over and over during his campaign). But while the parties probably were looking for an excuse, determination of contempt falls to the Speaker, not the parties themselves. Regardless of the motivations behind the allegations, contempt is contempt. The government is only supposed to govern with the confidence of the House. That's what makes this so frustrating: Harper blatantly ignored the constitution, and we rewarded him with a majority. It sets a terrible precedent.

What's really shitty about our system is that the majority of the population, 59.5 % didn't vote for the Right - we voted for Center and Left parties - and yet we're gonna spend the next 4 years under a conservative government, as a majority no less...it's a joke
In my book, if most of the people didn't vote for you, you have no right to rule - that's democracy, respecting the popular vote.
