The saying I heard goes: Beer before liquor, never sicker. Liquor before beer, you're in the clear
It seemed right to me, at least the first half... Apparently Mythbusters busted it though, and gives them equal status.
Of course I'm so thin, the saying is more like, anything after a 2nd drink, never sicker. :eww:
It doesn't help I'm such a good host, I usually insist on drinking with friends as long as they're still going.

Clearly you need more practice, Piggy :cheeky:
dema, both of those sayings are wrong, they don't include bubbly at all!

No way mythbusters busted that - it RHYMES.

I always interpreted it as 'descending alcohol content: ok', 'ascending content: not ok'.
One problem with the rhyming is sometimes I can't remember if it's "beer before liquor" or "beer after liquor"... The key word there isn't part of the rhyme, so it's not doing much as a mnemonic.

Funny how different regions have different variations of various sayings. For example, I always heard it like "Beer before liquor makes you sicker, Liquor before beer, never fear!".
I like yours a tad better...
Enjoying some Miller High Life (and a fat bowl of homegrown) after a LONG night at work. I wish I could afford some of my normal beers*, but this new truck is so much fun to buy shit for, I can't help but blow my fun money on that and a bunch of PS3 games every paycheck. Totally worth the sacrifice though, as it's at least in bottles and drinkable.
I mostly go to this beer store next door to work, that has hundreds of small batch/micro-brews/imports, on my way home. I have, for the last month or so, been buying something I have never tried or heard of before each night. Some notables, Great Lakes brewery's stuff, Left Hand's Milk Stout, some double chocolate stout that I cannot remember who brews it (tall purple cans) and anything by Stone Brewing.

I wonder how much the whole liquor order / types of hangover / hangover prevention /.cures are really just mental placebos; I never noticed any difference in highs or hangover no matter how/what I drink or eat. Liquor after beer, beer after liquor, chugging lots of water, carbing up... it doesn't matter, the only thing that seems to affect it is the quantity.
The first time I noticed a difference is with wine - normally when I drink I usually hit the drunk point suddenly and stay drunk until I pass out at night. But wine is a bit smoother and gradual, and if I stop drinking I can completely sober up and return to normal functioning. Though, frankly, I suspect it boils down to simple quantity and I just tend to drink less cause of lower alcohol % and usually sipping it over longer time than liquor or beer. I've also had some long drunk wine nights and terrible hangovers just like with other alcohols...

So I'm quite tipsy off of wine and whiskey right now, in celebration of the fact that my longest-standing web client and first employer finally had their first purchase of our online program ((
