So last night, was at
(http://www.therockstone.co.uk/) my awesome local and decided after 6 pints of kozel to start the Mission Ginpossible challenge, which is where you get a card which gets stamped for each of the 20 gins they serve. I only had the first two, both of which were delicious. Went home rather drunk and now I have to spend the morning teaching field ecology to 18 year olds. The other drinks challenges are: Top Rum, Whiskey Business & Bourbon the Fourth of July, as apparently the drinking lots of spirits thing is Tom Cruise themed. When I complete Mission Ginpossible, I get a t-shirt. Complete 2 challenges and I get a brass plaque on the bar. Complete all 4 and I get liver failure.

hard drugs will sort a hangover right out
hence:
beer after wine, that's fine
beer before wine, requires heroin(e)

I'm so fragile hungover that I can't even do tea in case the caffeine makes me anxious.

I hate hangovers enough to just not get too drunk in the first place. I don't even enjoy being heavily drunk anyway.
sorry thread killjoy at work here

Haha, oh no, I think most of us are past our college-getting-shitfaced days. I definitely drink to enjoy nowadays (and started to buy the pricier booze) and am mindful not to cross that dreaded point of no return. I had a hangover recently, first time in months, which totally reminded me why I don't get that drunk anymore.
On that note, I surprisingly feel quite peachy today, no lingering aftereffects of last night :thumb:

I kind of cut out drinking after my beer festival binge of a couple of years ago. I'm heading back into the fray soon because a stag do I'm off to starts the day with a round of golf (which will just be a nice walk for me as I suck) with a trip to a beer festival in the evening.
Needless to say people will be getting very, very drunk. I'm a lightweight now so I'll have to be careful but luckily my hangover prevention/cure is top dollar - a pint of water before bed with a spoon of salt and a spoon of sugar in it. Repeat on waking, hot shower, then strong coffee and painkillers as necessary. A good breakfast to follow, likely a full English, with a good amount of water and/or fresh fruit juice. An hour or two nap, second shower, lunch, crack open the rifle magazine for a spot of shooting in the afternoon and then back to the pub for what will likely be a more extended session and possibly on to a club of some sort as per best man's instruction.
Rinse, repeat. Home on Sunday, right as rain. Top drawer stuff, what.

I wonder how much the whole liquor order / types of hangover / hangover prevention /.cures are really just mental placebos; I never noticed any difference in highs or hangover no matter how/what I drink or eat. Liquor after beer, beer after liquor, chugging lots of water, carbing up... it doesn't matter, the only thing that seems to affect it is the quantity.
The first time I noticed a difference is with wine - normally when I drink I usually hit the drunk point suddenly and stay drunk until I pass out at night. But wine is a bit smoother and gradual, and if I stop drinking I can completely sober up and return to normal functioning. Though, frankly, I suspect it boils down to simple quantity and I just tend to drink less cause of lower alcohol % and usually sipping it over longer time than liquor or beer. I've also had some long drunk wine nights and terrible hangovers just like with other alcohols...
I've always figured it was about psychology. When you first start drinking, you're sober so your decisions on how much you should drink are likely to have at least some amount of reasonableness to it. Later on, when you're drunk and uninhibited, drinking more then you should seems like a better idea.
It takes a lot more beer to go from "Buzzed" to "Hospital" then it does whiskey. Plus, all the water in Beer makes it physically harder to drink to extremes. While the rather harsher experience of doing shots also acts as a counter, the drunker you are, the less that bothers you.

I'd say it's also largely physiological. Alcohol is a drug and the body's chemistry changes in response to chronic drug use.
