No, I swear it's "Jored", not dorin or jorrin.:erg: At least that is what it always sounded like to me. "Jored, is that you?" Almost like a misspelled jered... Also, the servant I always thought was "Is that you Kavel?"
Reminds me of that game where you whisper a word in one person's ear (everyone is sitting down next to each other, one person at one end starts it), and by the time it gets to the last person in your group it could be a totally different word.
I do agree that the third one is Jorek though. :)

There are over 20 different names associated with the question "that you"? As in "Dahlia, is that you?" or "Is that you, Cedar?" Sometimes without the "Is" and sometimes the slurred "Izzat".
Without information to narrow it down, the closest I could find would be:
sg5a1__5: "Jorrin...that you?"
Not to be confused with these guys:
sg5rbod3: "Someone's killed Jorgen!"
Sg3c1501: "Jorek tells me the Hammers are gonna close down Cragscleft."

See what I mean? Different ears, different speakers...
The name "Kevel" has come up more than those others. There are two instances in the games:
The most famous:
sv2a1__3: "Is that you, Kevel?"
And Benny/Dumb Guard:
sg1rbod3 (TMA), and
sg3rbod3 (TDP/Gold): "Someone's killed Kevel…. Watch out!"
I dug this up a couple years ago:
Quote:
(

Source: Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913)
Kevel \Kev"el\, n. [Prov. E. kevil, cavel, rod, pole, a large
hammer, horse's bit; cf. Icel. kefli cylinder, a stick,
mangle, and Dan. kievle a roller.]
1. (Naut.) A strong cleat to which large ropes are belayed.
2. A stone mason's hammer. [Written also cavil.]
Kevel head (Naut.), a projecting end of a timber, used as a
kevel.
Kevel \Kev"el\, Kevin \Kev"in\, n. (Zo["o]l.)
The gazelle.
Gazelle \Ga*zelle"\, n. [F. gazelle, OF. also, gazel; cf. Sp.
gacela, Pr. gazella, It. gazella; all fr. Ar. ghaz?l a wild
goat.] (Zo["o]l.)
One of several small, swift, elegantly formed species of
antelope, of the genus Gazella, esp. G. dorcas; -- called
also algazel, corinne, korin, and kevel. The gazelles
are celebrated for the luster and soft expression of their
eyes. [Written also gazel.]

Interesting. Sounds as though a nod to the hammerites in the Devs choosing a name such as that for the servant to say.
Sorry, this is quickly becoming a derailment of the thread.

I'm gonna call him "Nad Thorn" since he was voiced by Dan Thron.

Oy! Fitting for his temperament at times.:eww:
Heh.

I quite like the name Nick for him, sounds very sharp and smart.

Benny was not a "fan-invented" name. The woman in the bar room called the guard Benny.
If you are talking about the "dumb guards" versus the "smart guards" complex in thief, I never gave them any names. I simply called the one guy the "dumb guard" and the other guy the "smart guard" - the two guys in the basement of bafford's from thief 1 comes to mind.:)
Actually, I know his name is based after one specific guard in TMA. There was a consensus of the fans to give him that name, wasn't it ? Fan-invented indeed. :) I wrote down "...(more or less) fan-invented name..." in my post on purpose.
jtr7 on 6/11/2008 at 03:31
Hm. I didn't know that. Are you saying you read that taffers were asked to name the dumb guard, or taffers took it upon themselves to make up a name--like they did for Basso's girlfriend or to give Garrett a last name--and the devs put it in the game? I can't find anything about it, unless it was in a chat room, or something. I would be very interested in knowing if the name came from fan input.:D
All I know about the name is that it's a specific guard in one mission, but we've all just agreed, without discussing it, that the name goes with the voice, and all instances of that voice are Benny.
sNeaksieGarrett on 6/11/2008 at 03:40
No, you misunderstand me. I'm telling you, Benny was not a fan made name. The barmade calls the guard Benny: "whatever Benny, I think you've had too much to drink."
Now, if you mean guards in general, then I see what you mean.
The above may be pointless if the below is correct.....
Wait a minute, are you saying that fans of thief came up with the name Benny... essentially ditto what jtr7 just said.
Petike the Taffer on 8/11/2008 at 21:39
sneaksieGarrett and jk7 :
Actually, that was what I meant. It is "fan-invented" in the manner of naming all guards with the same voice "Benny", after the one from a mission in TMA.
