I was looking for a way to add a password to Firefox's password manager and eventually found this add-on which does exactly what I need. Upon clicking the big bright green button on FF's addon site I was greeted with a familiar dialogue. It said: "Install add-ons only from authors you trust."

http://i.imgur.com/hKVPpl.jpgI sat there for a minute trying to summon some trust while looking at the developer's tiny photo on the side...
I started pondering the philosophical side of this question: What does the level of trust I have for random internet strangers say about me? Do I want to be the kind of person that distrusts people because of how they look in a passport photo? Is this even his real photo? What does my own passport photo look like?
I still couldn't bring myself to trust him with my passwords. Call me shy, but I need a bit of time to get to know people before I open up about private stuff.
So I started internet stalking him. I first read a bunch of reviews he had written. They were all friendly and polite.
I found his personal (
http://www.icehouse.net/ddawson/) homepage quite easily after connecting his name and hometown. There he talks about his first C64, math studies, his love for fractals, his work as a wikipedian, he offers his GNU public PGP key and rambles about interactive fiction. There are thousands of pages like that, I guess. I hit the install button.

Have you stopped stalking him now, or do you intend to continue?

If I wanted to steal someone's personal details, I'd pretend to be that guy.

I stopped of course. I was asked only to continue if I trusted some random stranger. In the majority of cases where this question is going to be posed there is no way for the user to decide that. It's a bit absurd.

Speaking of completely random brainfarts, I was fixing my SoC review and wanted to make sure that the word "bombardment" exists in the english language. So I googled it and...
Quote:
bombardedpast participle, past tense of bom·bard (Verb)
Verb:
1. Attack (a place or person) continuously with bombs, shells, or other missiles: "the city was bombarded by federal forces".
Of course, who else would bombard a city but the
federal forces? I am shocked and appaled at the liberal propaganda and mind control in Merriam-Webster, sir.
DISCLAIMER FOR DEMAGOGUE: THIS IS A JOKE

Yeah but I got nothing on it, sorry. If CCCToad or Fragony had said that and something like "See, I'm telling you guys." then we could at least break out the tinfoil hat or "oh you!" .jpgs. As it is, it's just a legit funny thing to notice.

I wouldn't install a single goddamned thing from any one of you assholes. The last time I did that it took me months to purge my PC of goose porn and Call of Duty add-ons. Fuckers.

Anyway, the addon works flawlessly and I donated to it's author so he could afford a new haircut. Now he looks like Don Johnson and steals my show at the discotheque. I'm so faux fucking angry right now!!!

If I would like to install something, nah better safe than spending 30 minutes reinstalling and having a machine running at full speed again after getting rid of trojans, droppers, dialers, and several others.
I want to keep my own droppers, and viruses dammit.
