You assume that since noone liked it enough to include on their top-list that we dislike it? It's a quite new release. I'd guess that a lot of people like the series just about enough to start thinking about picking SS3 up when it starts appearing in bargin bins in the coming months. That's how I feel about it, at least.
It has a very reasonable release price, I would say. I pre-ordered the Deluxe version for $40. I think it is 50% off on Steam these days so anyone who's been waiting can pick it up for half-price (And only a month after release.).

I just grabbed it on Steam for £15. Any worries about it not feeling like Serious Sam have been assuaged. It's Serious Sam through and through, just as frenetic and ridiculous as ever.

Starting write a response to the topic question and it just kept getting larger and larger.
Probably just going to write up two to three games a day and post it in a few.

Not much to list here from my side, apparently I only got three games this year: DeusEx HR, Portal 2 and Skyrim.
For me, all three are pretty much on par but DXHR stands out a bit for it's awesome sound track. In this regard I'm a bit disappointed that Gametrailers did not choose them in their (
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/best-soundtrack-game-of-the/725221) ranking. (Yes, Skyrim has a good one as well, for me DXHR has just some extra bit)
At least I agree with Gametrailers about their (
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/most-disappointing-game-of-the/725225) most disappointing game.
My personal disappointment is about Rage though. (Still haven't finished it) - and that from someone who grew up with Wolf, Doom and the like. Perhaps I'm getting older.

I was going to make my Winners List as usual, but then everyone's cheery mood got to me and I realized it was way more cynical than usual. And usually it's pretty cynical allright.
From the perspective of PC gaming, which is only gaming that matters of course, this year was just... sad.
Let's start with Crysis 2 and RAGE. Both were made by people/companies who estabilished themselves as pushing the boundaries of technology. Both were a joke in that regard; Crysis 2 shipped with no graphical options whatsoever and needed a hi-res texture patch to even be comparable with the first one. RAGE, made by the man who created a large chunk of graphical workings of FPSes in general, had so many graphical glitches that it varied between "needs a fix" and "unplayable shit".
Bulletstorm can be mentioned here as well, which didn't have graphical setting presets for many of the modern graphical cards - that resulted in Software rendering-like horrors if your video card wasn't popular enough. And let's not forget about the amazing "If your resolution is not dividable by 8, you get a massive performance hit" coding feat.
Moving on to actual gameplay, DXHR was Bioshock all over again; Skyrim is 100% quantity over quality, almost a single-player MMO; Battlefield 3 was what everyone with half a brain knew it will be - Bad Company 2.1, about as worthy of its title as Fallout 3 was. Portal 2 was, in the end, entirely forgettable.
What else? I didn't play E.Y.E. but story goes it's like unpatched SoC or worse; Dead Island with its comical CRITICAL HIT +10XP messages; Witcher 2 was mentioned by one of my teachers recently as an example of polack's prowess in software engineering so it can't be good.

For me the best 2011 games were actually games from 2010 that I only got to play this year: Fallout New Vegas ...
Yes, that was another game that I played towards the beginning of this year that gobbled up enormous amounts of my time. An amazing achievement in design and definitely the best Bethesda game that I have played.

probably because bethesda didn't really make it

Everyone knows that the best Bethesda game is Wayne Gretzky Hockey 2.

I'll do only a top 3...
#1 : SpaceChem. Whenever I want to feel like a genius, this is the game I play.
#2 : Portal 2. A bit less interesting than the first one, but still a very good game.
#3 : Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Definitely dumbed down compared to Deus Ex, some annoying design decisions, a story which was rather bland, but still a surprisingly good game. Most importantly, the "core gameplay" of Deus Ex was there, something I didn't expect.
