*First world problems meme*
Seriously? Get a grip of the priorities in life. A storage site primarily used for warez distribution certainly ain't amongst them.
Are you familiar with Maslow's hierarchy of needs? Each step in the pyramid represents equal amount of longing/desire/need etc. to the individual. So when the basic needs are satisfied, the need for higher-level luxuries (whether it is the daily morning coffee, a new car, or megauploads) take their place in the mind of the individual*
Or in a nutshell - I fucking hate the "first world problems" argument, because if you are going to bring it up, then you are not allowed to ever complain about anything anymore, especially on a video game online forum, the very manifestation of the first-world.
* personal interpretation of Maslow's theory

Word, Yakoob.
Although I kind of get Eva's point (I frequently use "middle class people's problems" at work when someone gets really wound up by something really inconsequential) I think the bigger picture is what is means for sharing sites on the whole, and the internet on the whole.
Yakoob on 21/1/2012 at 02:23
Indeed. If you look at it entire in the context and scope of the "internet community" (if you can even call it that) and isolate it from other issues (first vs. third world) I can see how this can be significant. It's just one site of many, yes, but it's starting a trend.
Honestly, I'm not worried. If you look, filesharing has always follow the same pattern:
filesharing method introduced -> gets really big - > big corps start noticing -> lawsuits of individuals -> major players get shut down/sued to oblivion -> new filesharing method introduced -> repeat
First it was napster and kazaa, then torrents (which are still chugging along), now file sharing sites like MU or rapidshare. It's looking like usenet may be the next big thing.

Not really. If there's one thing politicians need to learn, it's that you do not fuck with nerds in their own territory. You will lose.
I certainly hope you are right.

Fair point, I probably did word that a little strong. To put it bluntly though: I used MU a
lot and I have no social life.

Apparently Google is increasingly censoring search results at the request of the US government, so some(

I'm curious to hear more about this. Can you link to the news article(s) you got this info from?

And there's a lot of talk around how Google gives in very easily to US Intelligence agencies, when they request it to omit results from its searches.

I don't really hold that against Google. They probably have no choice. As for that article, it sounds like Google is attempting to draw awareness to this issue.
It's certainly concerning that the US has so many requests to cut off webpages and obtain private information. But at least, according to that article, most take-downs are for good reasons, like child pornography (unless you're into that kind of thing, in which case, Azar offered a link to an alternate search engine that can still cater to your tastes).
