How can Garrett carry a body fireman style but still mantle onto a eyeball height ledge? Why doesn't he leave a trail of water after climbing out of the moat? Why doesn't he get weighed down by all that loot? Why doesn't he stick moss arrows on his feet, or at least wear anything other than tap shoes?
There are a lot of unexplained mysteries in the Thief series, all of which are fun to jovially discuss and decide for ourselves what the reason is, but there is the one big one, that I think really does get glossed over.
From Precursor masks, to little gold hammers, everything that Garrett turns in, he gets cash. Even coins of copper, silver and gold get turned into cash.
But what is this mythical "cash"? It does not seem to be coins, as they have a cash value, especially since TDS. Even in TG/2, coins are given a value in gold, not cash, and then subsequently, turned into you-know-what.
It is not paper money/scrip, as no hide nor hair has been seen of it, otherwise there would be cash loot.
So what is it? WHAT IS THIS CASH?

You will never know. It is the work of The Illuminati.
Either that or it is a currency only accepted in Middle Ages brothels! :ebil:

Right. I don't think Garrett has ever been laid anyway.

Tsk, I know that feeling.

Here's a few others: how does Garrett turn elemental crystals into arrows? Does he have a large supply of wooden shafts where he sticks the crystals? And in speaking of fire crystals, aren't they too hot to touch? Or are they just fiery on the inside? And if they are too hot, how does Garrett pick them up? Does he have gloves, or a pair of tongs or pliers?
And where does he keep his visibility gem? Is it a ring? Or perhaps he has it on his belt?
I'm sure I'll have a few others later.

Good questions. The fire arrow might have a 'skin', like a wood charcoal that insulates from heat, but the shafts? Good one.
The lightgem is easy. G has a preternatural ability for stealth, and the gem/compass is just for us foolish taffers to get a grip on direction and light level.

I've always figured he keeps the coins & fences the rest (for coins). We just get a runnuing total of what the loot aquired is worth.
But how does he sneak around with all that jangling away in his bag? How do crystal glasses stay intact in there?
And how do rope-arrows hold the weight of the rope....let alone Garrett?
And how can guards hear a single Garrett footfall when there's a bunch of them clomping around with metal shoes on marble floors?
And so on.... ;)

How does Benny manage to keep finding employment? Every time there's a major heist he's there, failing to prevent it, and frequently drunk too. Does he have a lot of guard friends who keep recommending him to their employers because he's fun to party with? Do employers not ask for references? Is he The Baron's nephew, meaning that everyone hires him to score brown-nose points? Or does he just work for 1/3 of what a normal guard gets paid?
For carrying all of his loot without jangling and breakage, I figure Garrett has about 30 or so pockets sewn into his clothing, so each individual loot item has its own pocket.

I think we are kind of off topic here.

I already covered that. How can he turn the coins into this fantastic cash thing?

Errr.....the coins
are "the cash". "The Coin of the Realm"?
It's what everyone carries around in their purses.

And when he runs out of pockets.......? :erm:
