Well, I don't have anything to add to the current conversational flow, but I do have an answer to the age old question of where Garrett puts all his loot, and why it doesn't make noise, as well as where he stows all that gear.
He seems to have a version of a (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bag_of_holding) Bag of holding called Heward's handy haversack.

I do believe I have discovered the answer to all of these questions:
It's not real, it's a game. True story.
Yes. And it's really a game, as is this thread.

I expect the cash is something like Hammer Bonds

Right. I don't think Garrett has ever been laid anyway.
That's not the impression I got from Basso's "very grateful" sister in the Break From Cragscleft Prison.

I get the impression that the TDS people made an oversight when dealing with loot and forget to make coins automatic gold.
Looking at the screenshot of the gold coin stack, it would appear that there are 25 gold coins, the intention on the part of LGS appears to be that 1 loot means one gold coin or some number of silver/bronze coins. (a fairly common system of currency)

I agree, I think selling coins in TDS was more of an oversight than anything.
In a practical sense, why would people have a stack of minted coins if they can't use them to buy anything? Good luck?

- How can Garrett eat Christmas Cakes, Donuts, Sausages, Steaks, Cheese etc in the space of afew seconds then run from guards and dive into a pool / mantle a wall / leap a massive gap without puking, or suffering a heart attack (or putting on weight for that matter !)
- Why can noone else in the Thief Universe swim / climb ladders / jump ?
- Who is 'Joren' ? Seems every noble lady in the T.U. knows his name.
- How do people travel, seeing as their are no 4 legged creatures in the T.U. ?
- Why are there no lady Treebeasts / Apebeasts ?
- Why are there cobwebs but never any spiders on them ?
- Why do the Children of Karras emit no smoke from their boilers ?
- What do Burricks eat ?
- How can any human(oid) take >4 broadheads to the body and be totally unaffected, yet the 5th one kills him.

-- His entire alimentary canal is also a Bag of Holding.
- Why can noone else in the Thief Universe swim / climb ladders / jump ?
-- They don't have enchanted Cloaks.
- Who is 'Joren' ? Seems every noble lady in the T.U. knows his name.
-- Maybe it's a gentle epithet.
- How do people travel, seeing as their are no 4 legged creatures in the T.U. ?
-- Besides the horse and carriage seen in the briefing for Baffords and heard in the TDS ambients? I dunno.
- Why are there no lady Treebeasts / Apebeasts ?
-- Or male bugbeasts, female fire shadows, female Rat Beasts, living children, old zombies with any hair at all?
- Why are there cobwebs but never any spiders on them ?
-- You usually won't find spiders on old cobwebs.
- Why do the Children of Karras emit no smoke from their boilers ?
-- Supremely efficient and complete combustion and/or particle capture filtration.
- What do Burricks eat ?
-- Age-old question. The popular answers were 'shrooms and whatever they might cull from their tunneling. The next question is where's all the expected waste?
- How can any human(oid) take >4 broadheads to the body and be totally unaffected, yet the 5th one kills him?
-- How can any human take a projectile to the skull, or lose a third of the brain and not only live, but have surprisingly mild symptoms?
