I'm feeling silly about this, but I need to ask for help. I've gone to the other world, killed or knocked out almost everything I cound find, except for two Cthulhoid entities in the outside area and some 10 adepts and their leader in a large cathedral-like room. I have pickpocketed two weird keys, and I have found two rooms that seem to have something to do with the two of the four bodily humors. Now I'm stuck running around in a huge maze mostly devoid of active enemies, and... what the hell do I do next?
Where can I find the place opened by the weird keys? Am I supposed to do something with the bodily humor rooms at this time, or is that for later? I'm lost in a labyrinth with no map, and I can't find any places I haven't seen already.
I would be grateful for some specific direction on where to go from here, because I seem to be missing a critical corridor or doorway that I just can't find. Something like "start from [this recognizable feature], go E, then N, then up the stairs, then W, and that's where you should go next"? Someone please help!
EDIT: In true Thief fashion, I managed to find a spot where the weird keys open a forcefield a few minutes after posting. Namely, a forcefield behind which is stairs leading down and a big red symbol of an arrow and a cross, and a second lock to raise the forcefield again behind you. And... it just leads me to places I've already been to. So my question remains: where am I supposed to go next?

Try to leave the cathedral and get to the outside again. Go down to the lower part of the landscape before the cathedral, where there are two giant beetle-like black beings which may have yellow spots on their bodies on some occasions. Sneak past the area where these beetles are. You should arrive at a sort of "back entrance", where some enemies are stationed. One of them (their boss) should be of the type who usually has these weird keys.
Either battle the enemies there, or lure the beetles towards the "backdoor guards" and wait until the battle ends. You may have a difficult time getting away from the combatants, but it should pay off in the end.
Once the baddies have massacred each other, it should be easier to get in through the "back door". You emerge in a tower-like structure. Not far from the entrance, you should find the weird key of the "guard boss". Take it if you don't have another one of these keys, then try to make your way up. If I remember correctly, your main target should be at the top of the tower.
The first time I played this mission, I had almost the same experience you had, but when I replayed this mission, I found that easier way. Still took me almost 90 minutes to get where I wanted to go, but it felt easier than the former path, and it also included some times where I was waiting for alarmed enemies to cool down again.

Thanks, that helped! I've actually been to that general area earlier on, but didn't go inside, as some path led me away.

Personally, I felt this mission was pretty weak compared to the others. Almost a victory-lap rather than a full level.
It's basically a straight dash to the closest key, pickpocket, then run up the stairs to the lab for the chemicals, then run to the ritual site and taint it, finished. I think a good way to get more out of this mission would be for you to have to collect the ingredients throughout the tower, which is what I thought would be the case when I found the various chambers with labels on them.Where this one really shined was the "tech demo" aspect. The monsters, effects and other custom work was fantastic, and well beyond what I thought the Dark Engine could do.
Only if you know where you are going. I spent quite a while on my first attempt because I went
to the base of the tower and got lost on my way up; the second time was faster when I went
across the map to the outpost then found myself halfway up already. I'm glad this one was shorter, as I found it really unsettling to explore.

I
loved the
creatures at the bottom of the map - I have no idea what to call them, though!
Light-up beetle beasts?I think they were shoggoths

you know, i feel a bit embarrassed... i played all the way to here on expert without needing any hints... but i have no idea what i'm supposed to do in this last mission...
i thot id just keep exploring.... i thot id eventually come across a readable or something that would hint to me what i'm suppose to be doing... but its all empty and repetitive with no hints... i've been playing for nearly two hours and explored lotsa different areas and knocked out or killed a bunch of... things... but i still have no idea what i'm supposed to do or where i'm supposed to go... i restarted the mission thinkin i had to havemissed something early on but even on restarting i still just don't get it...
the closest i got to getting anything done was taking the 'strange key' from the dude leading the Thriller dance in the main hall... then i wondered if he was azaran so I killed him and ran away.... didn't do me any good... now i just got a bunch of weirdos yellin 'sacrifice' at me... is this dusk or something? i got fed up and used the cheat code to end the mission and see the final cutscene... which was interesting... but gosh i'm so sad this game ended so badly...

I'm sorry you had a bad time with this one taffercat, but I also found it very disorienting my first try.
Once you get the
strange key, continue
going up at every opportunity until you reach
yellow energy drops dripping upward keeping you from progressing. Use the
strange key there and
continue going up, up, up...see my advice one post ago about
finding the outpost and try that way, if you don't have a good save to attempt from. :thumb:

I also spent probably about 2 hours wandering every nook and cranny before noticing the hint about the broken stair case leading to the room above the red "eyes" room, which I didn't realize the first time I saw it that it wasn't the mid-level fire room, but actually above the whole room. Then, after finding it, the game wrapped up a lot faster than I was expecting.
But one consequence of all that wandering was that I did knock out a good percent of everybody and everything that could be. In particular, I managed to KO every single follower on the ground level doing the ritual. You can probably imagine what a challenge that was! In a way I was making an objective for myself since I couldn't crack what the level wanted me to do for so long, but it was a nice accomplishment!
Another interesting thing about this level was the many-green-eyed monster, which was one of the scariest monsters in the whole game, and he was kind of a sideshow here you could probably miss. But I'm still happy I got to see him in action.

The biggest thing in this level, is just keep exploring. If one area doesn't have what you need, just keep going.

thats poor advice for this level, because
there is only one thing you need to do, and only one place you need to go (though having a key makes it a little more convenient), and only one way to get there—i wasted almost two hours "just keeping going" around and around looking for a way forward without finding one, all because i had not seen
the broken stair at the top of the eye room, just what the blank ceiling in the rest of that disorienting room, making it feel like a dead end.

That should read: Just keep going up. :cheeky:
