Look up the definition of mature.

I dunno, the new change in style could be a good thing. The whole crazy John McClaine let loose in Haiti style could be a good replacement for the Film Noirish feel of the originals. I'm interested in seeing how it turns out.

On one hand we moan about people not taking our hobby seriously and then when the protagonist gets a bit more mature we don't think it's cool enough?
I think what gunsmoke was getting at was that how does the protagonist getting older make the game any more serious?
Just because Max is getting more mature doesn't mean the game is doing the same.

I know that. But gaming will be taken more seriously when the range of protagonists varies outside of the gruff marine, supercool emo motor-bike-sized-sword anime guy and so on.
And gunsmoke never actually replied to my post so...

So far I can't really say that the 'new' Max Payne looks much less clichéd. He pretty much looks like John McClane.
Added to which, the Max Payne games had a self-awareness, turning cliché into pastiche/parody, and especially the second game was relatively mature in its writing and characterisation. Not naturalistic though, as they were still playing with stereotypes, after all.
I hope that the new Max Payne will keep doing this to some extent, because otherwise it might just as well *not* be a Max Payne game. It might still be a cool game, but you'd have to wonder in this case what the point was of keeping it in the series.

I'm sure they are aware of the John Maclaneness in the aging Max, and that much hilarity (ok, smirks) will ensue.
