He just wanted the psycotic glory of the Master Builder, but mostly himself.
As evidenced by one of the loudspeakers in Soulforge: "Praise Karass! And... eh, the master builder..."
But hey, I could be dead wrong.
It actually seems that he thought he himself was the Builder's avatar (in effect, one and the same) towards the end. Journals from the remaining Mechanist officers in Soulforge Cathedral stated that he was apparently no longer pressing any difference between the Builder's words and his own.

That was kind of the sick thing about those robots. Karras recording himself giving *himself* praise.:
Well. He obviously doesn't have any friends. He must've been bullied in school. So the REAL reason behind his evil scheme is to pay back the oens who kept giving him wedgies :cheeky:
Which kind of explains his self-praise. Sad bastard.

There are two little robots in the bank mission who have a seemingly pointless conversation that literaly goes on forever. The problem is that it's not obvious that it's a conversation because they stay things they would say anway.
How do you know they are having a conversation then?
The conversation and the guard and the mechanist doesn't reveal anything. The guard asks how they can tell friend or foe and the mechanist tells him if he'd attended his seminars he'd already know that. My guess would be that a list of "friends" has been fed into the robots/security cameras and that everyone else is considered to be a foe. Of course, that would be tricky even with modern computers - let alone things driven by steam but hey, it's only a game.
As for intelligence, I'd say no. The big robots can be tricked into killing themselves if they fire their cannonballs into a door frame. That being said, the guards can be tricked into killing themselves by drowning so that suggest they aren't smart either.
The robots never seem to do anything that isn't routine so I'd say they have no intelligence, only programming.

The small Children of Karras in the bank mission do have some sort of conversation, when you listen carefully. Their progmrammed dialect is well-timed, and that makes it sound like they are having a chat. It is very funny and pathetic at the same time.:p
The Children of Karras are not clever. When the big Children start attacking you, you can in fact fool them into killing the guards and innocent bystanders. :ebil:

Human consciousness is an array of electrical transmissions and hormonal exchanges.
We're also animals of instinct and habit (though we prefer deny it, or that we're even "animals.")
So, debatably, we're not that clever either.
....
Crap, another rant.
themetalian on 19/8/2006 at 22:56
Humans are animals. We are organisms. We live, breathe, and reproduce. We are also a species (Homo sapiens)
Kinda adds to the rant, doesn't it? :cheeky:

I was clumsily responding to "not so clever" statement, but I appreciate your addition to the rant.
All I was trying to say really was that while the Children act with apparent mindlessness, in an abstract way we're somewhat the same. That's about it.

I don't know... the way they speak, I have come to believe they have some twisted sort of semblance of a semi-soul.
Take, for example, the way they sound when they die - it's been a while since I've heard it, but I think it went something like this: "Error... Error... Creationnnn... "
As if they genuinely understand that they were created, and, due to that programmed understanding, now do not understand how they are being destroyed.
Eerie, really.

And I thought a world ruled by Terminators was bad enough. Imagine a world ruled by semi-soul Builder's Children. The Karassinator! :cheeky:

"All should hear the words of Karras, the words of Karras"
If I hear that phrase one more time, I'll snap. Karras would have to have the most irritating voice I have ever heard and during the whole of the Soulforge level he never fecking shuts up.
I keep expecting him to say "Nyeeeuuugh! I'm an electric car! I can't go very fast or very far!"
