The colossal Xbox 360 dashboard update... - by EvaUnit02

1080p is only HDMI only for protected content like Blu-Ray discs. The audio quality through HDMI is, however, a noticeable step up from what you get through stereo composite cables. Not sure about HDMI vs. Optical for audio. And it's a hell of a lot more convenient to just plug in one cable instead of five. You can also run in your display's native resolution through HDMI (pick 'Optimize Display' in the 360's display settings, iirc), which will make things slightly crisper, since there isn't any rescaling done by the TV.
Having to re-pick an avatar every time I make a profile is starting to get really annoying, and I don't like that when you're in the Media section of the Guide and scrolling across the buttons for the music player, it'll switch sections instead of looping back around to the volume or previous track buttons.

thought it was pretty cool at first.
Then it comes out that the avatar service is yet another way to nickel and dime us, and I went to "meh"

They plan on selling some clothing 'packs' and the like. Which, of course, you must buy. IT IS THE LAW, after all.

I quite like the general look and feel of the dashboard update! On the whole, the update is very cool!
The only thing that made me go WTF was the avatar bit. Why? Just....why???
I only want to play games and media on my shiny, not play with paper dolls ffs.

Guys, the new community games feature is awesome. There are a few really strange, experimental games up already (see "In the Pit", which is an audio-only 3D game in which you locate victims by the sound of their breathing), which gives me hope that my LSD remake (actually in the works, yes) will someday get up there. Microsoft doesn't seem to be too concerned about content, either -- the reviewers decide what your game should be rated, and if they like it, it goes up! :D

Yup. I had Xbox Live Gold but didn't bother extending it because the university accomodation's internet access port (I live in the halls) only allows the use of one piece of equipment to be used. Since I use the pc more for general browsing and gaming, It made sense for me to use the PC for the internet connection. If I hook up my 360 the internet access just gets disabled. Sucks, I agree.
I had a similar problem, so I linked my laptop to my 360 and get pretty good speeds. Google it, it might just work for ya.
