I looked back into the TTLG archives, and there haven't been one of these in a while. Live Music! It's been a staple of my existence since the early 80s. My wife is a big fan of concerts too, and it was a prevalent date theme for us in the beginning - go out, grab some food, then see a good local band. Now, we're often the "old couple" at the show, and we're fine with that. I'd say I/we still go to 5-10 concerts every year, of varying sizes.
I still remember my first show ever - Billy Squier and Ratt at the Mecca Arena here in Milwaukee. Yeah, not much you can say about that one.
That said - just bought tickets for Metallica, a band I've been a very casual fan of for years, but one that was definitely on the bucket list. Solider Field in Chicago in June.
I'm also going to see U2 (I can hear the boo! hiss! from TTLG, but I've been a U2 fan from the beginning, so I never miss them when they tour). That's two weeks prior to the Metallica show at the same venue.
Tonight I'm going to see Mike Doughty, former lead singer of Soul Coughing, at this tiny little bar in town, for 20 bucks. That's kind of more my style.
How about yous guys? Any big shows or concerts coming up? What was your first show ever?

Wow ! Thats a lot of concerts there... you must be a really old Taffer ;P ^^
Sadly I haven´t been on many concerts. But I really want to change it now. (Changed my job, so I hopefully got more spare time now)
There are two bands I always wanted to see live (even if they´re not very similar - I just LOVE music)
One is Linkin Park. Its one of the most honest bands I´ve ever known. Nothin to say more ;)
The other is Snarky Puppy. If you like Jazz you should definitly take a look. Its just a breathtaking sound!

...and there was a concert called ISAM. Amon Tobin. The artist who brought me to producing my own music. You´ve never seen anything like this before ->

My first concert was Moby Grape at the Village Theater (soon to become the Fillmore East), in late 1967. A few weeks later I saw the Grateful Dead there, I think on their 2nd NYC visit. A couple years later while attending Tulane in NOLA, I saw the GD the night they got "busted, down on Bourbon Street...", later immortalized in their song Truckin', along with the original lineup of Fleetwood Mac (still all guys). I was extremely blessed to see many of the Sixties greats in their prime, back when Fillmore tickets cost $2.50/3.50/4.50!

Dahenjo, I'm jealous, I would love to have seen Peter Green play with the Mac back in the pre-Buckingham/Nicks days. He was something special.
My first real concert was Judas Priest on the Defenders of the Faith tour in 1984. I saw Metallica with Cliff Burton in '86 as the opening act for Ozzy, and they blew him off the stage. Last big show I went to was Queensryche in '92 when they did Operation: Mindcrime in it entirety, which was an awesome show (I had seen them open for Metallica in '89 too). Since then I've been to very few as we've gotten older - my wife hates concerts (and is allergic to smoke) and I'm generally about as happy watching live shows online these days. Last year I did go to my first show in ages with my brother, we saw Voivod (one of our favorite bands of all time) play a renovated old church sanctuary in Cincinnati to about 200 people, and we got to meet drummer Michel Langevin before the show. For such a tiny old guy he sure beats the hell out of the drums.
I'm a big Amon Amarth fan and they have a show close to me in May, but my brother isn't so I passed on getting tickets.

First proper big rock show. Philly Spectrum...Van Halen 1984. I didn't know volume that high was possible. A full out assault on my senses. Saw Waters and Gilmour of Floyd fame on their solo tours around that same time. Best show I ever saw...Floyd 1994...The Division Bell tour...in Philly and later at RFK in DC. But consistently kicking ass all my adult life and seeing around 20 or so shows over the years....Rush. Like Yandros I saw Priest around that time. I remember being asked by the girls behind me to roll them up a fatty 'cause they couldn't. Always the gentleman I complied and we all got nice and toasty. Always got toasty at shows back then. The Floyd shows were especially fragrant. Nobody getting busted. Just kicking back and passing it around. Good times...

@Kolya - I saw the Airplane there, but not that show which was a couple days after the Kent State shootings and I was on my way to DC with half a million other college kids. I saw them later on too after the Fillmore closed and was also a big fan of Hot Tuna who I saw a few times.
@Yandros - 'Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac' were all great - Danny Kirwan, Jeremy Spencer, Peter, Mick, and John - I wore out their
English Rose and
Then Play On LPs. The day after the Dead's bust they put on an extra benefit show, a large part of which was the guys from both bands jamming informally, Jerry and Peter (and all of them really) trading riffs on old Hank Williams tunes & such, just utter rock history.
That was the inaugural concert at this place called (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Warehouse_(New_Orleans)) The Warehouse, which went on to have shows for years, and it was also the first successful rock concert in NOLA. Other bands including the Airplane were booked at other venues but were met at the airport by the local police and "dissuaded" from playing. But the Dead said screw that, came and got busted, and after that NOLA was de-virginated for rock music. Not long after I went to a show with this new strange-sounding band on the bill - The Allman Brothers Band .. needless to say it was as good as you might imagine, esp when you'd never heard of them!
Btw, I had and loved the 'Buckingham & Nicks' album (with Crystal, etc), then after they joined FM a good friend/roommate of mine was a roadie for their infamous 1975 US tour, with some amazing stories afterwards on that!

Notable ones for me:
All About Eve - 1992
The Levellers - 1995
(massive dry spell for no good reason)
David Bowie - 2003 & 2004
Depeche Mode - 2006 (twice)
Nine Inch Nails - 2005 (twice), 2009, 2014
The Cure - 2016
Plus a load of smaller gigs I can't really remember, including ones where I was playing on the bill or was organising.
Very glad I caught Bowie on the last tour.

Where did you see the Cure?
