There is something that worries me a lot. In last times looks that the game industy is turning slowly but steady at the consoles. Just today I understood that into the PSX2 version of Deus Ex is used Motion Capture in difference of the PC version. One friend of mine managed to scary me saying that there won't be PC versions of DeusEx2 and Thief3 and after X-Box appear the current proportion of PC-console games will be totally the opposite- the games will be made mainly for consoles and just a little part for PCs. Is that true? That's really a perspective that scares me... How many of you prefer the consoles and not the PCs BTW? Why? :(

I prefer PCs to consoles. The problem is that games are getting more expensive to produce but the money to be made from PC gamers is not keeping pace.
Consoles don't have this problem. A number of PC game developers are now doing console games to support their PC game development efforts.
Its very possible that in the future all A-list PC games will be console ports.

Definitely PC gamer. I don't play consoles at all.
If you believe your friend when he/she says that DX 2 and Thief 3 will only be made for the console, then you are way to naive. You need to do some searching around the web and read up on the ongoing debate between PC's and Consoles.
Get a grip.

Thanks a lot for these words :)) When I posted the topic I was very timid thinkink that there'll be a mass of people that'll say: "Piss off! Consoles rulz!!" But now I feel much better :) Let's hope that more people thinking like this and the game industry will turn again at PCs :)

Bear in mind that whatever the consoles have now, we ( PC users) can top in around eighteen or less months. Console game developers have to stick with the same technology for around four years, before getting something new to use. Seeing as both Thief 3 and Deus Ex 2 are shaping up to be ambitious titles, the designers are going to need that extra horsepower that the PC can muster, and that the console cannot. Don't worry. To quote Ed Fries, head of the Microsoft Games Division, " the same articles being printed now were printed four years ago". To elucidate, the same story is told every four or so years, and each time the ending is the same. Seeing as PCs are still around as a somewhat major gaming platform, you can tell that the ending often includes the PC as the victor.

The reason consoles bring in so much money is because console makers can and do charge more per game, compared to PC games.
Console makers can charge more for games because they distribute all the games for their console. And more parties are involved who get a $lice of the pie.
Example, All PS2 games are distributed by Sony, even though they may have been developed by another company, like EA. Both companies get a cut of the $$$, so they mark up more.
Unlike PC games, where EA does not have to share the money with a console maker, like Sony. So, they can afford to shave a few bucks off the price.
Ever notice how new PS or PS2 games are all $50? And it's a long time before the price drops. New PC games only average between $30-$40. Their prices usually drop more within months of release.
The question is: Why are console players willing to fork out more money for games? Admittedly, console games are always more stable than their PC counterparts (no patches). But console games usually have a shorter game life, players get bored with console games faster than PC games. PC games tend to offer more options and are more diverse. Ever notice how most PS games look like they were animated by Japanese?
If PC systems would come down in price a bit more and the PC world would concentrate on making hardware and software more compatible (aren't you sick of patching?), then I don't think us devoted PC gamers would feel threatened.
But then again, that's the real trick ain't it?

Yeah, that' right. In the PC, with all the game files in front of you you can change a lot of things, including fixing of little bugs etc. I agree with that about graphics too :) And one thing more: how 'bout the problem with the compatibility? For example, if I have an X-Box but Thief3 is released for PSX-2 then looks that I am cruelly screwed, eh? :P Something like that... I believe you got the point: the PC is most "universal"...
 ;)
PS Phew, I feel like a burden fell off my back... Glory and long live the PC!
