What would YOU do if the day came where the game was released completely open source? If you could tamper around with anything in the Dark Engine, what would you do? How would yo make Thief a better experience?
I think (if I had any clue as to how to program and mod) I would improve graphics and AI for the most part. I would try to make the AI a little more unpredictable and more human like. Also fix the door problem where you can K/O through the door. (I know everyone knows about this one).
As I am writing this, more ideas pop into my head but I want to hear what you would do with it....

Increase polycount limit
Increase object/light/ambient count limit
Increase texture support to 512x512 or better
Add dynamic shadows
Of course, you get all that with The Dark Mod. :cheeky:

Yandros has the right idea, I'd love to see the dark engine able to support large open spaces.

Meh, source code shmorce code. I'm halfway through reverse engineering SS2's dark engine, check the shock forums...

Where would you hide it? The Alarus Extension?
I would change it so that you could hide bodies in narrow places, bending their arms and such.
I would also make it so that you could chop zombie's arms and head off so it cant hurt you. Imagine doing that in bonehoard!

I've got a few on my mind just now:
* Fix/Improve dromed
* making it easier to write scripts (interpreted languages for example)
* Bugfix the whole thing
* Allow outdoor missions (Portals are not good approach on those)
* enable some gameplay modifying plugins (ghosting rules?)
* multiplayer
* Port the sources to other OS/platforms
* Improve graphics - shaders, shadows, hi-poly objects
* ... and more :)
@Displacer: How far is your effort? This is not an easy thing to do, the Dark Engine is very large. I don't think all things can be fixed in the binary itself, only minor bug fixes.
