Can't post pics of course but The Dark Mod is in the latest issue of PC Gamer UK, and Thief's Den is on the Cover DVD! :) We're mighty proud to see the toolset get some recognition.
Description from their cover disk.
Atmosphere pours out of this re imagining of Thief in the Doom 3 engine.
So far it's only a demo of the full mod that's to come, but it's a fully playable level that contains a lot of the sneaky features from the full thing. So take some of the art and voicework as unfinished, and pretend you're playing a beta for a new Thief game. Because you are.
Here is the text from the article.
The Dark Mod: Thief's Den
Grave Robbers
Thief's Den is a proof-of-concept demo from a team making a suite of
tools called The Dark Mod, which definitely won't turn
Doom 3 into a copyright-infringing Thief-style game in a medieval steampunk
world. Glad we cleared that up.
This small level requires you to break into a compound and
rob a room. There are just three guards milling around and
one wall to scale, so we won't spill the spoilers here. If you're
used to Thief's muscle-clenching stealth you'll be relieved to
learn it's all here, unerringly recreated. You have a
number of arrows for stealthy invasions: moss arrows dampen footfalls, water arrows douse lights, gas arrows drop guards and rope arrows provide
dangling incursion points. Not-Garrett can also mantle windowsills
and filch stuff.
You can ping an arrow into a guard's face for a satisfying ragdoll
death, too, although right now buggy AI, terrible animation and
unbalanced weaponry make that rather uncouth. The Dark Mod will eventually
bring us a whole lot more than just missions. The team are
primarily concerned with creating total conversion tools for others
to use. This short example shows they're succeeding. They've
nailed the murky feel of Garrett's world, the scope of his movement and thrill of hiding
in the shadows.
