:thumb: Still, remember that you're automatically increasing the pressure on you from the public this way - we want some real beta, fast! ;)

Nah, we've been at this long enough that we don't feel any pressure from this. The work will get done when it's done...has been and always will be that way. :)

I can't wait until the beta comes out! I still have to get a copy of Doom 3 though. I wish I could give that money straight to the Dark Mod team for their work.

Once Id releases the Doom 3 source code, will TDM be turned into a stand-alone game?
Thanks in advance.

We can't really answer that question. I think you'll have to look to this very forum and the Thief community when the time comes for that answer. If id released the source code before we go 1.0 and leave Dark Mod in the hands of the community, then yes...I'm sure our team would do it. If the code is released AFTER 1.0 and our team has moved on to pursue real life again...then it will really be up to the community to do that work. We aim to hit Beta by December, and no doubt aim for 1.0 release quality the following year.
If the source code came a year or two after that...I can't promise any of us would be up to the task of decoupling the mod from Doom 3. There would still be a lot of work to pull that off. Five years is long enough.
I do wish we had the source code right now though.

Doom 3 is only 3 1/2 years old at this point, not to mention it was pretty well ahead of it's time (tech wise), sort of heralding in the next gen. So I suspect that it's unlikely we'll be seeing source code released for a couple more years yet.

That's awesome! Congratulations to the Dark Mod team! :D

Yeah, Carmack said that he was planning to release the source code a year or two after the last Id Tech 4 game was released. That would be wolfenstein and it's coming out this year. So hopefully we'll see the source code in 2009 or 2010.

Not to worry Sir Horizon. I can tell already that the Dark Mod is truly the one future of the past of Thief. :) After this baby has been properly polished by you guys, source code release will surely be a rabid frenzy.
