Why? Personally I'm more than happy for id software to get paid. I've heard this from different people before. Id software have been supporters of the modding community for years, releasing source code for free after their engines are no longer used commercially.
I totally agree, and not only for the mod support by Id, but also for their great effort on supporting Crossplatform gaming by developing and making some port of their engines also, IE, for Linux.
If today i can play TDM with my Linux machine, i have to say big thanks also to Carmack and Id people (and of course to the TDM crew!) for their *vision* on crossplatform gaming, that today (in the DirectX and proprietary lock-in enviroment era), IMHO, MUST be subscribed strongly by players and people.
The results of this are clearer now for me: i do NOT need anymore any Windows-License-tax to play my favourite Thief Game.
And for this reason I'm *very* happy to pay D3 license and Id work on engine, because their effort made this new freeedom of choice possible in game industries.

Since fog is again hot topic in this forum right now (thanks to SiO2 work on ddfix), I've got a Q:
what does fog support look like in idtech 4 (Doom 3) engine and TDM: what kind(s) of fog are supported/can be used, and, are there any screenshots of missions with fog enabled in action somewhere? Does any of already released/planned FMs use any kind of fog?
What about some other weather effects like rain/snow etc?

Saw this mentioned in a mission thread and thought I'd ask about it here: Is there any chance you guys can add a way to tell if we have played a mission on the mission list? Maybe a box next to each mission we can check or something. In a year or two if someone downloads some missions and doesn't play them immediately it will be hard to tell which are the newest since they are presented in alphabetical order.
Loving the mod so far. Great work guys.

does GarretLoader support current TDM version (properly), btw?

Thief's Den had rain. Performance issues but there are various other possibilities not yet fully explored so hopefully one day we can get around that. By then of course everyone will have faster PCs anyway. Also another small FM is 99% done with a lot of rain
Snow: we already have one small FM issued with a little snow in the outer courtyard at the start.
Fog and snow: My own FM, now a joint project by myself, jdude, and Baddcog (schwa2) due in a few months will have both fog and snow.
The problem with fog is the boundaries of the fog 'blocks' is visible so its hard to do say, an L shaped courtyard and of course doorways into interiors. The thicker the fog the worse this is. I've got around this with careful lighting which can obscure these. I think I've already posted a screenshot somewhere.

Looks like fog I guess. :) Seriously though, anything I've seen looks good...and depending on how much work you put into it...you can make it look even better. I don't know if we have any screens with it enabled right now, but there are probably some out there. Fog is made by using a fog texture on a light entity...I think it's more of a blend light so it doesn't just look tacked on. Then you can adjust the brightness and I believe the colour of the fog.

Rain and snow are just particle effects. We showcased rain in our very first alpha map, Thiefs Den.

TDM doesn't need GarretLoader or similar external loaders, we have a mission loader built into the main menu.

@Cap:
Not exactly what you're looking for (I think you mean a checkmark in-game), but here is the wiki FM list, which sorts by release date descending (i.e. newest at top). I'm no wiki or html wiz so I'm not sure what ways there are to soup up the functionality of the list, but I'm sure it can/will be done at some point.

What I usually do (or did with Thief missions, till people stopped listing them!) was keep an updated local version of an assembled and pasted together FM franken-list where I indicated on my own which were played (checkmarks, or greyed out table rows, etc), so I didn't have to leave them on my HD taking space just so DL could tell me I'd already played it.

Wow, hard to believe we have ten missions out now. :) That's fantastic.
