I don't think that anyone is suggesting you guys create another application, just whether it is possible for GL or DL or whatever to support installing a fan mission and then launch TDM with that FM ready
What you are searching it's a simple frontend-launcher to load directly the mod and *.Pk4 Doom3 chosen map on start. I think it's faisible and also not so difficult to do, like other frontend-launcher for other mod/map in the quake/doom games.
I don't need it (i prefer the launcher in game, as it's done in TDM right now), but if someone need this kind of frontend, they can do it totally outside the TDM development, i think it's absolutely possibile without any problem :D
Addon: New Horizon and Tels explained well this argument on the TDM forum, maybe it helps you:

Nice to see you're playing with Linux Mazzortock. :)

I think that
TDM is officially the first native stealth game available on a Linux platform :cheeky:
I think it can be useful to write it in my sign. Maybe other Linux users-players will try TDM or maybe other Taffer out there will definetively abandon Windows, if it is used *only* to play Thief series (like it was for me)! :ebil:

Is it possible to reassign the Alt+enter (switch to windowed mode) default combination or disable it somehow? I use "left Alt" as the lean forward key but sometimes when leaning to pick a candle and hit enter to put it out the game crashes.

HI ya,
have successfully set up TDM and played the training mission, which had me bouncing off my seat with joy at finally succeding in getting my pc to do something that I want it to do.
But alas I am now having a little problem loading FMs , (and before you ask I did do or attempted to do as suggested at the wiki site)
Would it be possible for someone to Post a pic off what the fm folder content should look like if set up correctly?
Let see, a little info
I have explorer 8, so I did as told and downloaded fms and did not extract them, renamed .zip to .pk4. then attempted to play, but the fms are a no show. when extracted the fms show up but when I load the fm It reaches a point and I get eg: game error, couldnt load map, maps/chalice.
I have written the above so you ( you being, who ever the helpful person/s are that reply to my plea) can have some idea of what Ive been doing, right or wrong, and point me in the correct direction.
All words of wisdom will be gratfully received
yours sincerely

Thanks for the help Fidcal, sorry to say that it did not solve my problem.
But I found a file converter at the following address which did exactly as it promised,
:(
http://doom3.filefront.com/file/ZipPK4_Converter;33051#Download)
It is at the above address and it worked perfectly and is very simple to use.
Thanks again

You should download chalice into the darkmod\fms folder. This is what you should have at start in darkmod\fms assuming you have just got chalice for the time being:
folder: training_mission
file: chalice.pk4
You do not need to worry about anything else (unless there is a problem) so play and enjoy. But if you are curious:
When you run Dark Mod you should see both the trainer and chalice on the New Missions menu.
If you do nothing further but take a peek in Explorer in darkmod\fms then you should see
folder: training_mission
folder: chalice
The file you downloaded: chalice.pk4 has gone. It has been moved into the chalice folder.
So now, inside the chalice folder is the pk4 plus a few text files, darkmod.txt etc. These are used to display in the menu.
If you now select the option in the New Missions menu to install chalice it will tell you it has to relaunch. After it has done that then chalice is now the current fm.
If you now use Explorer you will find a new folder has been created:
doom3\chalice with the pk4 inside it and some other files. This is the game folder. Doom3 needs it to run the FM. Each FM has two folders: its own folder both in darkmod\fms and in doom3 but you do not need to create ANY of them. You only need to download the pk4 into darkmod\fms then let Dark Mod do the rest.

TDM Team: You might be able to have the installer create exceptions for the download/update process in the Windows Firewall. My company has done it in our drivers since XP SP2 and the Firewall were first released, so I know it's possible, but I don't know whether or not it is only possible from a WHQL-certified package.

I dont think that this is priority work, when you open the updater for the first time, the firewall should offer you the option to block/allow. If it isnt doing this at all, then perhaps it would be. I am not aware that this is the case tho.
Feel free to sign up and add this to the wiki, I would but its better from someone who has experienced the issue.
You will have to fetch missions seperately, the updater only covers official TDM updates and such - when things are updated there will most likely be a news article or something to mention it :)

Mmm, I didn't get any request from the Firewall, it just blocked it. But after checking it again, it seemed perfectly OK. Oh well, it's probably just me being stupid! I downloaded the FM's seperately, which makes sense as the Dark Mod is distinct from the Fan Missions created for it (from a maintenance point of view). Anyway, I left it downloading whilst I was at work, so now I'm off to play all the missions!

@BrianTheDog: A firewall should not allow any program access to the internet without you giving permission. Maybe the first time it blocked it, it probably showed a message and you clicked OK. It was probably saying, is this program OK to access the net. But when you gave the OK it was probably too late for the program which had already detected an error trying to access the net. But the second time you ran the program it now had permission so it went ahead. That is normal, although some programs just keep trying, others timeout after a while. Dunno about tdmupdater.
