XP. tdm_update.exe is there. No tdm_update_win.zip.
When I ran the updater again, I got the error again (and also a 'file not found error' for a filename starting with _), but now the error no longer appears.
The updater does unzip a new tdm_update.exe after it runs, but due to restrictions on windows, it cannot overwrite itself with a new file. To get around this, it creates a batch file and starts it, then removes the batch file (or removes it at the next start). Somehow there is an error on some systems, at the moment I don't know if the extract and update step was performed or not. We have to wait and see for the next update of tdm_update whether it works or not. The worst thing that can happen is that you need to update tdm_update manually once :)

If you shoot a noisemaker out, then make a detectable noise via footstep or other, some may very well start searching in the direction of the sound too.
Another point is that the AI will search *around the area of the noise* and also *look into dark spots*. You cannot expect to make a noise in a lit corner and hide nearby in the shadows and then the guard just searches the lit area missing you. Our AI is not that dumb! :)

Actually if your using visual studio there is(or was) a command to run the exe from the swapfile. You CAN replace the file that way since it copies itself first and the original exe is not locked.

LOL! Can the guards actually call elevators?
I'm playing Chalice of Kings and decided to evade some pursuing guards by jumping on the delivery elevator and going up. But as I was going up, someone pressed the button and it started moving down again!
I pressed "up" again, and again it was countered! Eventually I got away by mantling onto the next level while the elevator was in transit.
Pretty cool if the guards can try to catch you by bringing the elevator back down.
Yes, they will even take the elevator when they way via the stairs is longer - lazy bastards! :D
(Edit: Fidcal said they will prefer the stairs, hm, I remembered it otherwise, but my mind might be faulty. In any way, it is surely going to be fixed in the future :)

But we are not using visual studio :p

I downloaded it ... Unfortunately, while Thief's den worked perfectly on my machine (Intel 946Gz), Saint Lucia did not. The new beta also doesn't work. My suggestion: Put it simply somewhere that you don't support integrated Intel Chipsets so other people won't waste their money for Doom 3 if they have Integrated Intel cards.

Help. Loading of the training mission - ok, but just gets to message "Preparing to start mission" ... and then stops. I wait 5, 10 minutes... nothing :erg:

Try waiting a bit longer, say 15 or 20 minutes. Make sure you don't have Task Manager running. Doom3 doesn't like it very much.

THE DARK MOD STARTPACK 3 by Fidcal
The Mappers' Startpack is a set of components that can be used as the start of any Dark Mod map.
it has all you need to both start and finish off your FM.
It is a complete, installable, finishable pseudo-mission already packed in the correct TDM FM format.
It does not include any useable terrain but sets up other elements that are common or essential.
Instead of developing from new the mapper can simply modify these which is far easier.
The mapper can thus begin with this seed FM and focus on building.
The entire startpack can be customised by the mapper to form a nucleus for all their future FMs.

Interesting, is it possible to eventually win in the contest? :cheeky:
