That's the same problem I'm having. The crash is also occuring at three different places in the Chalice FM: 1) when I open the double doors on the second floor, 2) when I open the first floor door closest to the stairs, and 3) when I drop down on the other side of the fireplace (which could be the same room as #2). Does it also crash for you in those locations, Malleus?
Ever since I locked two guards in the storage room I've been warming up to the mission, so it's a pity I can't actually complete it.

Thanks for your response. But I still have this problem when I am copying the "original" doomconfig.cfg of the downloaded darkmod folder into the darkmod folder which I put into the Doom 3 folder.
In fact it seems to me that Doom 3 is overwriting this cfg- file. The original size of the cfg is 7,31 kb; when I am starting TDM with tdmlauncher.exe the size of the cfg- file changes to 10,4 kb. Even write protection does not stop it. Any other help?

P.S: I am using Vista and I downloaded TDM via torrent. I can close TDM with Alt + F4. I can use Alt+Tab, but I only see the Task bar; the rest is black.
Don't know exactly the problem or the history but let me clarify Doomconfig.cfg but excuse me if it sounds obvious but maybe you can analyse it and apply to your situation to see if it throws any light on it:
Doomconfig.cfg stores your settings so if you change anything in the menus then it changes the file. There is a DoomConfig.cfg in the darkmod folder and another in each game folder (eg, doom3\chalice) Dark Mod tries to keep these in sync so if you change a setting in the menu while playing say Chalice then it gets written to the config in doom3/chalice. When you exit then it gets copied back to the one in the darkmod folder. If you install a new FM then the settings get copied into it.
Here are more details but this is mainly aimed at anyone wanting to manually edit the config file:

Post again if this doesn't help.

This sounds like possibly memory overload either physical RAM on the PC or in the graphics card when a new set of textures is loaded but I don't know what might resolve that. (apart from buying more Ram.)

Great stuff! I'll be installing Doom 3 and The Dark Mod tonight! I can't wait!
I can't wait to hear what YOU have to say about all this. ;)
LOL.

Good news:
TDM is now working fine. What did I do? I have no idea.
I deleted everything about TDM in the Doom 3 folder. Then I copied the downloaded darkmod-folder into the main Doom 3 folder and started with the launcher. Everything is fine, as usual. I immediately quit TDM and restarted with the launcher. I see the Id logo and the black screen. As usual.
I copied the cfg file into the darkmod folder and tried it again. Quelle surprise! It works! Why? Dunno.
The only thing that´s different is the fact that at the first tries I always changed something (changed the resolution, installed the Training mission). Now I suddenly quit TDM without changing anything.
I hope my little bug report can help you finding the problem.

I checked going through the fireplace, but it crashed for me too when I dropped down to the room.
Temporary solution: drop down backwards (facing where you're coming from), then
look at the floor, don't look up, and move into the room. Once you're in the room (I walked a around the room once, just to make sure), it is safe to look up, the game most likely won't crash anymore in that location.
I'll check the double door soon, and see if a similar workaround exists.

I had the identical problem....I also deleted the training_mission folder that is in the Doom3 directory (not the folder in the the dark mod directory)
The file is supposed to be changed when you install a map..

Just so it's absolutely clear let me see if I understand:
You created a new folder away from doom. Let's call that backup. You then downloaded the updater into that and ran it there to get the whole download in that folder as a backup right? So now you have backup\darkmod.
You copied the darkmod folder from the backup folder into your doom3 folder.
You run doom3\darkmod\tdmlauncher.exe and Dark Mod works fine.
You make some changes to the settings.
You exit.
You run doom3\darkmod\tdmlauncher.exe and you only see the original Doom game not Dark Mod at all?
You exit.
You copy backup\darkmod\Doomconfg.cfg to doom3\darkmod
You run doom3\darkmod\tdmlauncher.exe and Dark Mod works fine.
Is that about right? If so, note down what changes you made when you changed the settings in game. Seems to me that the answer lies with those.

What, they can be eaten? Since they didn't go into the inventory, I thought they were just for throwing at people. Gotta try eating them with the Use key... :sly:
Well, we told you, TDM is not That Stealth Inspired Enigmatig Fantastic Game but something different :)
