No, must be something else then. We have had lag when entering a new room in some situations as a new batch of textures are loaded but this seems to be a different problem. This is probably beyond my knowledge so hopefully someone else can suggest how looking at a model statue or whatever can crash the program.
Damn! So many things that can go wrong it's a miracle anything works. We have lots of us testing internally over months before release with different systems but I don't recall anything like this.
If nobody else comes up with a solution maybe we can set up some test rooms to try to narrow it down more.
Apart from that the only thing I can think of is to run darkmod\tdm_update.exe. It will compare the files. If all OK it will just go OK, OK, OK, etc. If any of them is corrupted on the previous download it should try to download it again.
See what tomorrow brings.

@ fidcal:
I start TDM with the launcher, I don´t see your TDM logo. Instead I see the blue ID logo with the mars. Then the screen is completely black, I only hear the menu music of TDM and see the cursor. I can move the cursor and I also hear the sound when it scrolls over the place where the buttons should be.
Using alt + tab doesn´t change anything. Alt + F4 kills TDM perfectly.

Wow, this is an amazing milestone, congratulations to the entire team! It looks and plays amazing, and represents about everything I could want from a Thief follow-on from a visual and gameplay perspective. I look forward already to making missions for TDM at some point in the future and setting my own stories in that world. I used the updater and had no problems installing or running TDM out of the box.
I do have a couple of comments. First, disabling Catalyst AI actually causes TDM to crash on startup for me, so it shouldn't be advertised as a silver bullet fix. I run it in Standard mode and have no problems, aside from the sky being inverted; I've not tried running it in Advanced mode yet. I also get the entire screen inverted when I turn Bloom on, as other ATI owners have reported. The only other issue I've seen is that it crashed once when I enabled Vertical Sync.
Second, I've played through the Training Mission and have had a blast. I know it's not as comfortable and familiar as Thief, but that OK because I also know that comfort will come with time and practice. However, I'm totally stuck in the melee simulation. I handled one foe easily, without losing a single fight. But the first round with two foes has me stymied - I've tried at least a dozen times and have failed miserably; the best I achieved was taking out one of the foes before dying, and that only once.
Anyone have tips on successful melee with multiple opponents?

I can't even get it from them, had to use one of the mirrors from this thread - all I get from all the URL's to their website is "Service unavailable"
Did they blow out their server bandwidth limit with the release?

there is a statue on a small column. That kills it. If I look at it, the game crashes.
That's mind-boggling. Can you describe exactly what statue? I can't imagine how a particular model can cause a crash like that, but maybe there's something unique about it.

You're actually not supposed to be able to defeat multiple opponents with any certainty, though you can get lucky.

t's perfect, though after shooting a priest in the face, he was still talking whenever I whacked him.
An arrow to the face will kill a relaxed AI, but not an alert one (otherwise it would be too easy).

hypothesis: the model has a weird vertice or normal, that causes software bug (divide by zero?).
suggestion: upgrade drivers for video card

Evening
Questions...
* Is there anyway to bind a key eg. 'O' to bring up the objectives in game(like a readable)..?
* Can two keys be bound for an action, eg. 'left-alt+w' for lean forward..?
Observations...
* Trying to fight with the sword, for me is too hard - its easier to blackjack opponents, even when they face me...
* My initial impression of walking/crouching footstep noise on any surface is, its tad too loud - thieves don't wear hobnail boots do they.. :cheeky:
* Some noises don't sound anything like their real life counterparts (Moss, drawbridge gate)..
overall though, extremely impressive...!!!

Not currently, though I believe that is planned. Currently, you can press ESC to get to the menu, and go to the Objectives screen. From there, toggling ESC will take you in and out of the Objectives screen while playing.

I don't believe so, but someone else might know a trick to do that. Once the source is out, all of this can be added of course.
Re swordfighting: seems some take to it immediately and some take a while. Experience with Mount and Blade helps; with that, there's basically no learning curve. Without it, I'd suggest inverting the attack direction, and enabling auto-parry. You'll be having fun with it in no time.
Re sound: We were hurting in the sound department for literally years. Toward the end, we got some much needed help, but there is of course more to do.

Thats the same problem i was having but i got it working by copying over the .cfg file from doom 3 to the darkmod folder replaceing the one that was already in there.
