Yes, I'm sure people would love having a giant blurry object directly through their field of vision.

By the way, that was simply constructive criticism. No need for the patronism.

Have any ever really liked anything though ZylonBane? Really?

Did it ever come to your mind that he may be so pedantic about details because he cares about them?
Anyways, his argument that gameplay should sometimes overrule realism is sound. Read (

I don't understand how you can respect someone who seems to just bring people down in every post by adopting the sarcastic/pedantic tone. I don't think it's valid at all, and why I ignore most of his posts. But anyway, my point about being feet away from the rope still stands - it may as well be in third-person.
Since this gameplay video is so old, when is a new one being released with the latest updates?

No need for stereoscopic vision, just a simple depth-of-field effect. I don't have time to learn the Doom3 SDK and implement it, and I'm sure you don't have time to test it, either. No worries though, it's a simple enough effect and I'm sure your graphics coders will know know whether it's worth it. 'Twas but a suggestion. :)
We don't have any graphics coders. The Doom 3 renderer is a closed system with no possibility of customisation through the SDK, unfortunately.
Ajare on 19/7/2006 at 21:11
Oh, I may have been misinformed as to its versatility. You can at least use custom pixel shaders, I hope? Render-to-texture? That's all that's required for DOF. Anyway, like I said, it's probably not worth it.
How about making the rope semi-transparent? :joke:

Well, I like sarcasm, and I'm not offended by it - as for respect, I think that's a given in discussions with intelligent persons.

As Ishtvan said, it can be tweaked with a tweakable tweak.

Although, you can do quite a bit with custom shaders.

most probably a person climbing a rope holds it like this
Inline Image:
http://www.persiist.com/present/temp/PG143A.jpgunless i'm grossly mistaken, i think thief1/2 had it similiarly
player hanging slightly off-center from the rope
in any case
this is ridiculous nitpick bickering over an unfinished project
it looks totally FINE and it's a ridiculously awesome feature to the already amazing product darkmod is turning out to be
be nice, or they'll never let us play it
Ishtvan on 19/7/2006 at 22:18
Actually putting the rope slightly off center is not a bad idea, it would make frobbing things while on a rope easier than it is right now with it in the center. Anyway I'll shut up about it, don't want to hijack the thread. :)
