What's it like to be in charge of an internet fan project that will not be done for another two years? I mean, it's easy enough to start a project, and you've definitely got a quality team there - but how do you keep the ball rolling?

TDS teaser looks excellent too, except maybe music and speech.
The TDS teaser didn't show any in-engine footage at all.

At this stage, it feels really good because we are able to see the results of our efforts beginning to take shape. We're also able to see the light at the end of the tunnel more clearly...so it's encouraging, especially now that we have begun to gain support from Thief community FM makers who want to help. :)

Fun little video releases like this help, because it shows people that we have been working quite hard the last two years. When you consider that it takes a full time production house 4 to 5 years to put out a game these days, the fact we have gotten so far with our toolset is pretty amazing. We have a lot of dedicated members on the team. They work late nights. :)
It's also important to be able to see the features we have implimented put into action, that's why we invite Thief community mappers to come out and build test maps in our beta mappers program.
The AI are starting to come together, it helps us to seem them in action, and with our custom version of DarkRadiant hitting alpha release last week, we will be able to start tailoring the editing experience towards DarkMod level building, instead of Doom 3. Hopefully our beta mappers will start giving us some feedback on DarkRadiant soon. :)

You're welcome to code it. Shall I setup the account for you?
I'd love to be able to help, but if I helped on every project I wanted to, I'd get nothing done. :(

Well, I meant not that very first teaser, but one that was released a few weeks prior the game.

Maybe its because I'm too lazy to look on your site, but why exactly do you have a set timeframe? It's not like you have Eidos breating down your neck, or that this is some boring chore you don't really want to do, so you need a scedule to stress you into working.
From what I know, a timeframe only serves to ensure you release a project that is less then it could have been.

Because without a goal in mind, things have a tendency to never get done.

I can see that, of course, but T2X managed fine with an "It's done when it's done" progress plan. As I said, this is not a boring appointed chore, but something they want to do.
Right?

Of course it is, but you have to be realistic. Without established timelines, the project flounders and, like Zylon said, will never get done. When you have all the time in the world, you are more likely to put up your feet and say...it's done when it's done. That's not our motto. Sure, we love the work we're doing...but nobody could keep this up forever, it's all done in our spare time...on top of our real lives and real jobs. It's completely unrealistic to expect a 'core group' of volunteers to work on this for 5 and 6 years. I think it's amazing that our core leadership team hasn't changed in the two years we've been together and a good majority of our main team is also still in place. Not easy to accomplish in a project of this size, so we want to finish while we are still together and still have the energy. If more people in the Thief community could donate their time by making textures and models, we would be able to focus more on the core gameplay...instead, everyone is a jack of all trades.

Just being curious. How many projects are you working on?
