Look great guys, keep up the awesome work! I know it's a work in progress but it was really amusing to see the knocked out person being dragged about the room by nothing!:D

Just in case there is any confusion, the fact that there are no visible hands dragging the body isn't due to it being a work in progress. We're simply not supporting/ implimenting body awareness. True first person allows far greater player control.
ZylonBane on 24/7/2006 at 17:33
Generally speaking, having a first-person body model doesn't necessarily degrade control. Ion Storm just implemented it bass-ackwards-- instead of giving the player direct control over his movements and letting the animations try to keep up, they made the animations dictate player movement. Which was quite amazingly stupid, because any sensible gamer -- if given a choice -- would rather have responsive controls than fluid animation.
Arx Fatalis is a good example of how to do a first-person body correctly. You can look down and see yourself walking, etc, but the body animation doesn't affect how you move. It's just along for the ride, so to speak.
But it's still a ton of animation and coding work either way, so I certainly can't fault the TDM team for not doing it.

Theoretically the body model in TDS was a step forwards because you could know over ornaments or bang into chairs. I thought the idea way to implement another challenge for stealth. The mistake was that you cannot really have body awareness like that in a game (in RL it's almost a 6th sense so it just ended up feeling clunky. No need for it in TDM though. In HL and HL2 you don't see GFs hands. Who cares?

Not to mention it is classic Thief style, which counts for a lot.

No, no, a thousand times no. You don't need a visible body model to bump into things. Invisible War did it. Lots of recent FPSs do it. Heck, even the original Thief games did it to a degree.

The sense is called (

I'm just replaying Chronicles of Riddick, and I must say that I quite like the body awareness in that one; I do think that it adds to the feel of the game. Can't compare it directly to Thief 3, though. As far as I remember, the problem with T3 in this respect was less body awareness itself than its dodgy implementation. In CoR I never feel that I'm not really controlling Riddick (except in the cutscenes, of course), whereas there were times in T3 when Garrett seemed to have a mind, and a clumsy mind at that, of his own.
Edit: Just saw that most of what I've written was said by ZB. D'oh! :)

You know, this argument always amuses me somehow. One may say that classic Thief style is to stick with original graphics and models too. Not ugly models and 8/16 bit colurs = not true Thief.

Awesome stuff guys!!! Keep up the great work.

Did I mention we could really use some talented animators, modelers and texture artists? ;)

Um... what OM/FM was that in? (feeling like a n00b)

So kudos to you guys, for proving that thief has now grown into something that's larger than lookinglass studios, or eidos for that matter, it's turned into it's own reality. God I love you all taffers who makes this real =)
Think about it, This game has spawned a record number of FM, one FM that was as large as any of the previous games (T2X), and now a whole new project to allow our FM's to grow with the technology... (kinda puts a lump in your throat)

What's cool though is that you can also do a in-flight mantling. :) Kind of jumping down a ledge, and if you press the button at the right time while flying down, you can grab the ledge on the other side. :)
Ha! Is he "The Thief"? or "The Batman"? :)
Truly amazing work guys
