Actually the mantling right now is a little too lenient - for instance you can sometimes mantle up stair steps! But, like everything else, it will be adjusted and tweaked to toasty perfection before general release

I know it's already been answered, but: Thirith, I have half the machine you listed, and it runs fine. ;)

This reminds me... in TDM will you be able to mantle through open windows? It always bugs me in Thief missions when there's a big window that Garrett should be able to climb through with ease, but I can't do it because the engine won't let you mantle into a crouched space.

you can mantle into a crouched space IIRC (in tdm).

So? You somehow forgot to make a point... (And here's my point: An editor that is as flexible as the one they're going to provide + a community with highly talented mappers = lots of Thiefy goodness.)
My point is that TDS official trailer #1 was also very cool.
I agree that this one looks probably even more cool, but it doesn't say much about how good and thiefy actual gameplay will be.
BTW, how do I save the low-quality version to hard drive?

Short answer: yes.
Long answer:
"The mantle proceeds in either 2 or 3 phases: pull -> push -> done.
"If the upper surface is below the POV of the character (relative to gravity) then the mantle starts by the character pushing themselves upward. Otherwise the player pulls themselves straight up, pauses while they shift their hands around, and then does the push phase to the final mount point....
"The end result is that if you try to mantle onto a ledge where there is only room to crouch, the player ends the mantle in a crouch. If there is room to stand and you aren't holding down the crouch key, the player stands up at the end."

I haven't played Thief in a while but I remember how horribly pin-point precise you would have to be on mantling jumps. You would have to be completely parallel to the ledge to make mantling work. In the video it looks like he kind of misses a clean jump from the rope arrow beam but hits the ledge at an angle, yet he seems to do a little half mantle anyway. Very cool :) Looks pretty lenient and solid.
Currently the mantling as quite to sensitive. Often it happens that you want to jump and start to mantle instead, but we will fix such issues later. What's cool though is that you can also do a in-flight mantling. :) Kind of jumping down a ledge, and if you press the button at the right time while flying down, you can grab the ledge on the other side. :)

Yeah, just don't let yourself start falling too fast before you try to catch a ledge or you'll hurt yourself. :)
