codereader: BTW, what archiver are you using to create TDM's PK4? I've made some experiments with 7-Zip by using its ultra Zip-compression and I've managed to shrink Doom 3 and Quake 4 for a several hundreds megabytes (alas, I can't recall exact numbers). After that...liposuction both games were, of course, 100% playable because I've played them from a beginning to an end.

We're using a Perl package script to create the PK4s, with compression levels set to 9 (maximum) for all compressible file-extensions. I don't believe there is much to be gained in that area, but I can give it a shot some time.

7-Zip is a free archiver available from (
www.7-zip.org) for many OSes ;).
While that may be true, you still have to install it..I prefer to install as fewer programs as possible on my PC to try to keep it stable...

codereader: Ok. And I'll try to make such a liposuction on TDM's "Thieves' Den" and "Tears of Saint Lucia".
Ringer: Well, then 7-Zip archive of TDM is definitely not your choice :).

7-zip will hardly cause your pc to become unstable. It's so small and insignificant, you won't even know it's there. It's a stable and useful tool. It's only when you install and uninstall crap that your computer will become unstable.

I agree and add plus: 7zip is OpenSource (LGPL license) and Crossplatform, so it's extremely difficult (read: impossibile) that he can hide crap or malware like the 90% of software for Windows.

So as long as the files I want happen to only be available through a torrent site, and as long as everytime I try to download through a torrent site there's few seeders, etc., I'll be screwed.
Anyway, you can connect to an Torrent network, via SSH Tunnel, it's not so difficult to do. You Internet provider cannot intercept and block your torrents, if they are cripted.

Has anyone played this mod on linux?
Sorry if this has already been brought up, speaking of open source

One of the testers, Leatherman plays it under Linux. Works just fine.

I played Saint Lucia under Ubuntu 9.04 with an not so recent ATI HD2600, and it works very well!:cheeky:
There is only one problem (for me at least), but i think it's an ATI proprietary driver problem: the Water effects. If water effects are on (command under console: set r_skipPostProcess "0") the game play at 2/3 fps.
Otherwise it's pretty fluid, very good! :thumb:
I hope that this minor problem will be fixed in the next upcoming release, otherwise i'll try to fix it, no prob :cheeky:
