People may be frustrated, is getting mad really going to help? No. Bit stupid if you ask me. They are this close to getting it done, we should be grateful they are doing this at all. Lets bite the hand that feeds our addiction, way to go.

I guess it's ok. TTLG didn't specifically ask us to create TDM, therefore we (as the TDM team) can't really expect the entire community to be grateful in the first place. If they are, it's nice - but if they aren't we have to live with that, and we will.
My personal take on this: You cannot possibly keep your motivational fire burning for five years just living off the cheers of some internet community, and you definitely cannot do that with something like TTLG in your neck. If you try, you'll drop out of the process pretty soon.
Why am I coding for TDM? Why am I spending a considerable part of my freetime for a mod, doing late night debugging sessions, spending hours to implement a file naming convention the team discussed for three weeks via an internet forum? Why am I spending long hours to get the falling damage of the player perfectly right? Not for you, not for jtr7, not for clearing, not for brethren or TTLG as a whole, sorry.
I'm doing this because I'm following an idea of creating a damn good First Person Sneaker. The lucky coincidence is that there are a hand full of people sharing mostly the same vision about what a good sneaker should look like, otherwise the team would have disbanded four years ago. And in the end everybody on the team is doing this because it feels fucking good to create something on your own - it's a creative process you're getting addicted to, which is keeping you on "alive". I assume the folks at the T3 editor's guild will understand what I'm talking about.
Therefore it's not "hurting" me if people around here are obnoxiously nitpicky or are discussing a goddamn stats line for hours. I'm seeing the positive feedback, and I'm mentally blocking the rest, because in the end I don't care about those folks. They will never be satisfied, and those same folks are usually not contributing anything actively neither, so why should I bend over backwards to please them? Does it sound disrespectful? Possibly, but I'm the one who is doing the work, not them.
It's thinkable that we won't see any maps for TDM apart from the ones the team and beta mappers are creating on their own, for whatever reasons ("it's not garrett", "no mechanists", "no crystal arrows", "I'm sticking to dromed"). This is the worst case, we're not wanting to see. Will it stop me from darkmodding? I don't think.
So let them do their worst, none of them is going to stop TDM.
(Sorry for the long post.)

Yes. Interesting. For myself, I only said I didn't like one image, and have been very happy and excited about most of the rest, even the other stuff I didn't like as much. Any negativity in my posts beyond that in recent pages has been read into it, I didn't put it there. And it shouldn't have to be said that no one's obligated to like everything, but some serious respect is due, and that doesn't mean always applauding. My other negative comments are against a narrow view of gamers and Thief players. I don't care who you make it for. The fact that you are making something this cool is great, and the fact that you are sharing it is great!
Also, this thread has had major flame wars throughout it's existence. This is but a cycle. I know it's hard to hear any slights against hard work, believe me.
I am amazed by this admission that TDM details were not discussed thoroughly, though. :wot:

Yes, sorry about this delay but we are gradually getting closer.
No need to be sorry, but sometimes saying something is worse then saying saying nothing..small pieces of information make people invent what they deem is missing...Like the above screenshit criticised for being "too clean"....

I have not seen any "mad" responses on here yet...

THAT MY BRICK WALL?
I am so suing if it is.
Edit: Forgot I'm not in comchat, where I can get away with being a jackass without being taken seriously. If it is my brick wall, I'm flattered. If not, well...I think we're all relying on CGtextures a little too much sometimes.

Believe me, I really feel for you people waiting in the dark. I appreciate many of you are probably logging in several times a day so you don't miss an announcement. I would be myself. I remember hating that Thief 3 website with zero information month after month, not to mention Thief 4. But we don't know much more ourselves when it will be released because we are testing until we are sure there are no serious issues that cannot be fixed later without breaking early FMs. And most everything we say is misread. So if I say I *personally* am fairly confident it will be released in less than two weeks but it's impossible for it to be released in the next two days does that help? But if some serious issue comes up we just have to fix, or if there is more work setting up the download procedure and information and website presentation and all the re-testing after rebuilding the package and all the other stuff involved like writing this when I'd rather be eating my breakfast then if it doesn't get released for 3 weeks yes, I'd be personally surprised but it could happen. Nobody internally knows more than that really. So my opinion of when it will be released isn't worth much more than saying 'we are in the final phase of testing' or 'we are getting closer' really.

Aren't we all? There are even a lot of textures there that may be used for darker, more timeworn surfaces. I have used some of them, and may convert some if I make a TDM mission later on. Just check their terms of use and with the site owner if you aren't clear about something - he was very helpful to me at least.

Once the mod is released and everyone see's how awesome it is I will be surprised if the devs who made it are not approached by Eidos to help work on Thief 4..

Where do you get this?

The thread is about experimenting with the look of water, trying to figure out how to make it look better.
