Since creating new models and textures takes time and skill, and most importantly, if they are generic, after a time demand for new models and textures decreases, why not add the things that are good to the central repository and install them with the next TDM update?
I have plans for a themed mission with custom textures and models which are almost certainly going to be of no use to most FMs, so it makes sense to keep these separate, to me anyway.
If size isn't anticipated to be an issue, then I take your point and everything could be included in a single PK4, but it does seem that there would be a higher level of maintenance required to decide what gets included etc, as opposed to letting individual artists upload assets to a structured repository.
I guess one of the benefits of having a beta release is that any problems can be identified, and those that aren't really problems will be proven so:).

Well hey, I guess that's life for you. And, y'know, the universe. Everything like that.
Seriously though. For a minimum of distress, those reading this thread should keep in mind who is and isn't working on TDM. :D

I wonder how noticeable the Doom 3 sales spike will be?

Well I bought mine quite a long time ago in anticipation for this mod...I found Doom 3 itself to be a rather poor game..

Same on both points, but I reckon Square Enix might want to have a look at the actual 2009 figures for Doom3 against the projected ones.

While I think it's impressive from a purely technical point of view, I didn't play through the actual Doom 3 game myself either. I'm only using it to work on TDM.
