The Dark Project, Early Beta.... - by LaughingMan008

I was just watching that "To Sneak" video from The Circle's Thief movie section a bit ago, and suddenly found myself wondering wether that build of the game still existed somewhere. If anybody doesn't know what Im talking about, go take a look at it. It's an old old version of Thief that looks like a first person shooter....
ID games released all their old betas of Doom some time back. Wouldn't it be cool if somebody from LG released the old beta/betas of Thief?

It would be nice, but as I understand it Eidos owns it all now as LG is no more. I doubt Eidos will do it as they are not near as forthcoming (spelling) as LG was.

So Thief 1, 2 freaking belongs to Eidos? :( I guess i kinda knew this anyway, but it's still kinda sad. I would rather it be owned by a dead company, that actually made it.
Well, the beta would theoreticly be interesting to look into indeed, but as Sting mentioned, Eidos probably wouldn't go for that.

I wonder why not. It's just beta which may be of interest for some taffers. It's not even source code, though I think the time is ripe for its release too.

As I have read somewhere on these forums recently, the source code for the first two Thief games might have been lost when Eidos was facing a potential takeover. If only...

If that is indeed true, thats pretty damn sad. Then again, I highly doubt it, thats what they WANT you to think. Someone has to have it, stored away, in a locked chest.

Maybe so. It either will get found some day, or will remain a subject of talks and speculations till the end of time. :)
The only thing I know from a good source is it is not easy to find, and portal (renderer) is lost.

FWIW, someone who used to hang out here a lot, and who knew several of the LG staff, told me the other day he would be incredibly shocked if most of the LG programmers didn't still have personal copies of the Dark source code.

of course nothing they'd ever admit, but what if it popped up on rapidshare or whatever anonymous file sharing service... wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more ;)
I guess even if so the question would be which version, final or some intermediate snapshot, and for which game(s).
