If all else fails you can start it the old fashioned way.
1) Click your Doom 3 icon
2) When Doom 3 is at the Title Menu click "Mods" (towards the bottom right)
3) Select "The Dark Mod" from the list of Mods
4) Click Start
5) Select a Mission from the Right Pane
6) Click Install Mission
7) Click Start Mission
(This is presuming that all your FM's are in the correct directory.)
Except that I don't know what that is. I went through the steps you outlined above but it all comes down to where to put the mission(s). Thanks for the input.

When you download the new missions and put them in your FMs folder have you renamed the .zip to .pk4? because otherwise the game won't find them.
(sorry if that's been covered)

lol What is going on here? Come on guys, there is a wiki with all of this information. :D
burrick, it sounds like you're doing some stuff on your own for whatever reason.
1. Your target and start in settings are way off.
2. Dragging and dropping an fm onto the icon won't work either.
We have a wiki that answers most questions.

Directly from the wiki.

Install on WindowsYou need a working and patched Doom 3 installation on your hard drive. These steps will assume that you installed Doom 3 in the folder C:\Games\Doom3. If you are using a Steam version of Doom3 please read this FAQ note.
Create a darkmod folder in your Doom 3 directory, like this: C:\Games\Doom3\darkmod\
Download the TDM Updater from one of our mirrors.
Extract tdm_update.exe from the downloaded ZIP and copy it into your C:\Games\Doom3\darkmod\ folder.
Run tdm_update.exe. The installer will connect to our download mirrors and start the download process.
Be patient and wait. The download weighs about 1.7 GB will take a while.
If you see error messages about corrupt files, please try to run the updater again, these massive downloads are sometimes failing.
After installation, you'll find an executable tdmlauncher.exe in your darkmod folder, i.e. C:\Games\Doom3\darkmod\
tdmlauncher.exe.
Right click on tdmlauncher.exe and select the option to send a shortcut to your desktop. That is what you
must use to start up TDM.

Installing and Running Fan MissionsGo to [(
www.thedarkmod.com) (
www.thedarkmod.com]) to get hold of mission packages available for The Dark Mod. Each FM is contained in a PK4 file, which contains all the files necessary to run the mission.
Download the mission PK4 file - (IE7 may rename PK4s to zip, dont worry TDM looks for both pk4's and zip's).
Drop the file into the fms/ folder, "for example" C:\Games\doom3\darkmod\
fms\.
Launch The Dark Mod.
The mission should now be listed in your New Mission menu.
Highlight the mission and select Install to install. TDM will automatically restart.
Select New Mission and then Start this Mission on the upper left.
See the full article Installing and Running Fan Missions for a detailed explanation.
Fan missions go in doom3\darkmod\
fms. I believe as of release 1.02, they can end in pk4 or zip, doesn't matter.

Yes it really is simple.
tdmlauncher.exe should be in the darkmod folder.
Just right click it and create a normal shortcut. Don't change anything. Don't worry about the 'start in'; it should be darkmod automatically because that is where tdmlauncher.exe is.
FMs go in the darkmod/fms folder.
Nothing more is needed.

Actually since 1.02 TDM will work with PK4 or zip files. No need to change em anymore.

Happy news, people. I got it to work! Yes, I put some more effort in, looked at the info about it and, well, it's working now.
Another question removed from the previous topic: About gas arrows, what key selects this arrow kind?
Thank you all for your replies.
Fidcal on 12/11/2010 at 17:22
Look in your Dark Mod menus under Settings > Controls > Weapons. I have Key "7" but I have changed a lot of keys so I don't know if that is what it was originally.
burrick on 14/11/2010 at 02:11
Did that, thanks.
I've encountered something else new to me. In playing 'Thieves' I am about to dispatch the gang headman with a broadhead. I fire the arrow and get the following error msg from the mission before the mission terminates:
'GAME ERROR
Script object 'TDM_Result_arrow_training" not found on Entity
'CProjectile Result_ATDM:Result_Arrow_Broaidead_Training_331.'
OK'
Can anyone tell me what this error msg means?
Thanks

I have since learned that the gas arrow is #8, at least at this time. Sometimes I think it changes.
