I wouldn't say the ports are "well crafted" -- they have some serious issues. But the games are perfectly functional.
Which issues are those? I haven't bumped into any, apart from slight inconsistencies between the games' controls. I've only played
MGS2 and
MGS3, but those run perfectly well, much more smoothly than on the PS3, and so far I haven't run into any glitches.

MGS3 on PS3 has issues all over the place -- framerate issues for example, and they really cocked up the beautiful lake at the end.

That's a shame to hear. So far I haven't run into the framerate issues (are they worse than on the PS2?), but I'll know to expect them. MGS2 ran like a dream, and the smoothness and higher resolution made it easier to aim IMO, which I was glad about. Same on Snake Eater so far, but I guess it's inconsistent in that respect. Any word on Peace Walker?

PS2 version's framerates are perfectly fine, particularly in the optimized Subsistence version. No idea about Peace Walker, haven't gotten to that one yet because reasons.

I don't know if this is exclusive to my PAL versions, but the (occasional) frame-rate issues in MGS2 and 3 definitely occur in the same places for both the original PS2 and the HD collection.

I don't get the MGS thing. I tried playing MGS 2 for about 4 hours. I spent the whole time reloading because I couldn't figure out where the AI were, where I was, or what the hell I was supposed to do. As I have amply demonstrated in these very forums, I am a moron, and I suck at games - I mean REALLY suck at them. But I can scarce remember being so frustrated that I couldn't even get started with a game without getting caught/killed repeatedly. It just seemed like there wasn't enough feedback to allow for stealth, and I would have been better off fighting my way through, but the combat sucked as well (at least to me). I just never got it I guess...
Also? That link? "Your video will start in 1:02." Um, no. Fuck that. Fuck that shit with a milk truck.

It starts for me instantly... You don't lose that much, though - it just summarizes how the stealth genre has gone from pure stealth to hybrid 'you can sneak and fight as well' type of games, and then Warren Spector and some ubisoft guy tells you that it's a good thing.

This actually makes a lot of sense, now that I think about it.
Question -- you know the videos where Snake eats something or heals himself? Did the quality deteriorate as each one played?

That was actually a very good, if short, video about the death (not dearth) of stealth games. Dishonored can certainly be played like Thief to a very large degree, but there will never again be a purely stealth game like Thief.
