Bit of a random one, but I found that playing NOLF (and to a lesser extent NOLF2) with the emphasis on stealth was a much more rewarding (and amusing) experience than the first time I went through it playing it action-styleee.
Whilst it's not necessary it's a lot more fun and tense, especially since as far as I can recall being in shadow doesn't render you invisible (NOLF) and hence it's more of a duck-and-dodge type of concealment.
Just sayin'. Anyway, they're both superb games so give 'em a shot regardless :D

Stolen failed because it was badly implemented. Or so I understand - I never played it. Deus Ex has many high-tech stealth elements to it and you don't have to refine that aspect much to get a decent stand alone concept.
There really needs to be a first person ninja assassin game though. There is no reason not to do one and it's an untapped idea. Amazingly.

Is it actually a "proper" stealth game?
In a word, yes. Most of the characters (you play several, the game hops around from character to character as time progresses) are unarmed and utterly helpless, so you're forced to play it stealthy. The stealth works by use of trying to "tune in" to the zombies/monsters vision, so you have some idea of where they are in relation to you, and what they see on their patrols, so you know where to hide when one's coming your way.

Well I don't know if I'd ever get a chance to play it, but it sounds really cool. :)

I liked it a fuck of a lot better than Silent Hill 4, which I bought on the same day.
It's worth a try, if you have a PS2 you should pick it up.

There are so many of these PS2 games I'd like to play. But find me a truly backward compatible PS3 and I'll be there :(

You'd have better luck just finding a PS2. New, even.

(

I'm not that desperate and I'd actually like a PS3. I feel that games should be played on the native system too.

Additional stealth potential genre: a Banksy-esque inspired graffiti game, which could potentially act as a much grittier, story driven (versus more gameplay driven) counterpart to the new Mirror's Edge game. Even having a persistent city and spending most of the time avoiding surveilance, with the encounters with police being hopeful short and non-violent (seeing as how a PC in this kind of game would most assuredly lose out to armed police).
